Meet Lisa Wilson

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lisa Wilson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Lisa, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?

My father and mother. They were TRUE examples of generosity. They always made sure they feed people throughout the community. Help people pay bills and other things that were needed as well. They were EXTREMELY vital in my upbringing, My father and mother believed in me so much no matter what I set my mind out to do. My father and mother encouraged me, lovingly, emotionally, physically, and monetary. No matter what challenges I faced, they always encouraged me, they made me feel like I could do anything without limitations. That’s why today I believe you can do the IMPOSSIBLE, especially with God. Our family lost both of our parents about 7-8 years ago apart, but I still want to keep my dream alive. My father and mother followed me along my journey throughout the years. One thing my father and mother taught all of their children was to never give up even in the midst of adversity. I don’t believe in the word “NO” , to me the word “NO” just means: Next Opportunity, for every “NO” there will be a “YES”, and I just keep looking for my “YES”, when you do find your “YES” take it and share it with as many people as possible and always look to help others. My husband and I lost everything we had. We had been married for seven years and had separated 3 years after. During that time I did a lot of searching for things to help my children and I. I made sure my children had a full course meal. My children and I slept in one bed, all four of us. My family helped us out a lot especially my mom and dad as much as they could. I lost my home, my sister in law had an accident in my car with my two daughters and her daughter and total my car, but THANK GOD they are still with us today, just by the grace of God. My husband and I are back together again, it’s been 35 years. I wouldn’t trade the suffering because it taught me to took look out for others and never take anything for granted, not even a piece of candy, and it has also made me stronger than I ever thought I could be. I look forward to helping others because of what my own family have experience and endured. We should always look for the good through all our trials and tribulations. Remember JOY always comes after the rain.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

You can find us on the website at: www.hmstrm.org and look at our story and at what our organization does as far as helping struggling families facing hardship. Or contact us at: 313.741.5477 or 248.991.7984. You will be able to see who our partners are and what we do for the underserved areas in our community as well as see our clients testimony. You will also be able to see organizations we work with. Our company is EXTREMELY focused on our nonprofit seeing and focusing on the needs of the community. Helping families receive help, that other organizations may not help fund in the community. When our company receives grant funding we look forward to helping those facing hardships. Whether it’s needing help with food, utilities, clothing, rent, mortgage, etc., our funding has depleted so we’re still waiting for grants at this time. If there are any companies looking to help with our endeavors to keep helping the community, we would love to have your love and support. We have been looking for a matching grant for our $25,000 that we have received from the Huntington bank. Our company usually helps pay a percentage of our clients bills within 1-3 days, or we may pay the entire bill depending on the severity of their situation. Not only that, our company has help many families start their own business while applying for help, teaching them how to become self-sufficient. I get extremely EXCITED when we see our clients come through our doors and utilize the information given to them from us. We also teach them whatever we teach, teach it to someone us. Always help others when you know they need it to. Our company has received over $75,000 in grants and we have helped over 168 families that were in need. We mean what we say about helping others, and we look for other companies that are doing the same. This company is not a job for me, it’s my dream come true. I am just living out my dream, and trying to stay in it as long as I possibly can.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

LOVE is always first, you have to love everyone, no matter what background, religion, nationality, it doesn’t matter, we all need each other. Always, Always reach for the heart first. Let them know you truly care about them no matter what. Always remember out of everything LOVE is essential, without it no of us can survive.

INTEGRITY: If you don’t have it people you work with from the beginning can tell just by your conversation. Make sure your never selfish. Always let them know you want to share your knowledge of what you know to help them along their journey. You needed it at one time, now help someone else. Always talk with your heart, not your words people can tell just by your actions if your sincere.

ENCOURAGE: Anyone starting out, remember even if your doing the same type of business always encourage others even if their business is not doing the same. Always remember things that work for me may not work for you, but it doesn’t mean you won’t succeed. Just make sure you take someone along the journey with you and encourage them the same way you needed someone to encourage you even in your mistakes. Make sure is this something you really want to do and not a hobby. Something that you really want to do never leaves your mind. You think it, you walk it, you talk it, you live it, you dream it, it’s in your sleep. that’s how you know it’s not a hobby but your dream. Sometimes your not even paid for it, but the JOY of knowing you help someone for life is one HUGE pay day for you, knowing that family will no longer struggle just because of your support and love.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

Out of everyone GOD, has. GOD has used people to encourage me, shower me with all kinds of blessings, show me how to do things when I couldn’t figure it out myself. Showed me better ways to do things. Taught me how to know those that really needed help, and not just acting like they needed it. He has showed me who to work with that really had the community’s heart at hand. He has let me know all mistakes aren’t bad, actually they have showed me how to do better moving forward, my skills, qualities and knowledge have even got better over the years when I conduct meetings, knowing what to bring to our attendees in terms of what are they looking for, what companies need to be their to address the people, what resources to bring in order to help underserved areas facing hardship. What’s going to make them excited enough to come through the doors, what’s going to make them get out of bed to even want to come to our meetings for help. Knowing the needs of the people is very vital for our company. Information on housing, food, education, etc, bringing other entity’s with valuable information that we may not offer. Just really studying the needs of the people over 16 years, even though we have been hosting meetings for the last 10 years at different facilities throughout Metro Detroit. This is how we found out the needs of the community. As well as meet with community leaders seeing what their involvements with the community is. Through all this GOD has been there from the beginning, he is my #1.
