We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lisette Solares a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lisette, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
Two years ago, I restarted my reading habit because I felt overwhelmed by all the work I had. I needed a space to relax and focus my mind on something other than my job.
I wanted to read The Psychoanalyst by John Katzenbach, and I finished it in two months. That experience motivated me to join the @30libros reading club. In this club, I started reading one book per month, and soon after, I began increasing the number of books I read each month. This motivated me to create my Instagram account, @lizsolares, to share literary content and inspire others to read.
Reading has opened unimaginable doors for me: new friendships with people who share my passion, job opportunities in the amazing literary world, and collaborations with writers to promote their books.
My Instagram account started with a clear purpose: to motivate others to read and discover the benefits and lessons books provide. In my opinion, books are life’s teachers—they have transformed the way I see the world and given me a new perspective, full of possibilities and wisdom.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is Liz, I’m 40 years old, and this is a special part of my personal story. A couple of years ago, in search of a break from the daily hustle and bustle, I began making bracelets. This simple activity provided me with peaceful moments and a connection to my creativity that I had never experienced before. This discovery led me to explore other wellness tools—I started meditating and practicing yoga. But it was at the beginning of the year when the “cherry on top” of my life arrived:
The @30libros reading club. The first book I read with the club was “Tu éxito es inevitable” (Your Success is Inevitable by Maïté Issa), and that’s where my great adventure began.
With that book, I learned that it only takes 20 minutes a day to incorporate the reading habit and transform it into a pillar of well-being in my life. I learned two key lessons: I deserve time to disconnect, and my well-being is a priority.
Books have not only transformed my life, but they’ve also connected me with wonderful people. They’ve made my dream of working in the literary world come true, and now I’m part of the @30 Libros team. I’ve also had the opportunity to collaborate with authors and even with a publishing house from another country that sent me books to review.
The most exciting part of being a literary content creator is participating in book events and interacting with other readers. One of the projects I have for 2025 is to launch a podcast and a YouTube channel where I can share more book content and reach more people to continue spreading this habit.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Emotional intelligence, respect and communication.
Emotional intelligence is one of my skills that has allowed me to handle different situations with balance and empathy.
I deeply value respect in all my interactions, building relationships based on trust and understanding.
I also have excellent communication skills, which help me convey the important messages that books have given me, creating meaningful connections with those around me.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
One of the books that marked a turning point in my life was “Hello Fears” by Michelle Poler. Before reading it, I had a great fear of appearing in front of the camera, but page by page, I discovered that it was possible to overcome that fear.
Thanks to that inspiration, I was motivated to create my first reel and bring to life a special space on my account: “hojeando libros con Liz’. (skim through books with Liz)
This book also inspired me to connect with my dreams in a more tangible way. I did an exercise where I wrote a letter to my future self, meant to be opened a year later. When I did this, I was thrilled to discover that two of the dreams I had written down had already come true.
Without a doubt, Hello Fears has been one of the most valuable books on my journey, helping me move from intention to action.
