We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lit’l Poett a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
LiT’L , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I believe I get my work ethic from growing up in a big family that struggled. I am fortunate enough to be shown what hard work looks like, coming from a family that moved from the south to Missouri and was on section 8, I am fortunate enough to have struggled early in life , because seeing my folks work hard, long hours, and multiple jobs just to make ends meet puts a hunger inside you that will never cease to exist. I appreciate my folks everyday for teaching me the value in work ethic coming up. they are what
fuels me everyday in life as far as grinding for what I want. I remember not knowing what tax was as a kid,
I saved a whole jar of coins and cash trying to purchase a mongoose bike because I wanted to be like the BMX guys. I remember getting the bike off the rack and walking it to the checkout just for the clerk to ring me out and I find out I hadn’t had enough for the item after tax was factored in.That taught me a lesson on being able to afford things not just able to purchase them. My family always lends a hand even when someone is in need and that taught me to always be generous because you never know another persons situation , even if you are struggling. I come from a long line of hard workers who have gotten it off the muscle. I think once your back is up against the wall and your rock bottom the only choice is to go upward.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Hello world, I am LiT’L Poett, a real rockstar. I am currently working on my first studio album “In Orbit” , although I do not have a release date yet, I will be keeping updates posted in my instagram page @punkasspoett_ . I have been featured on local artists albums and mixtapes and have released some projects and singles of my own on my sound cloud, Apple Music, Spotify, iTunes and various other platforms. I am also exploring and experimenting with other platforms to bring behind the scenes type of features to my fans and anyone who enjoys my content. I have launched a YouTube page which will have music videos and other content added weekly, as well as a Twitch channel where you can find me doing all types of content. When it’s all said and done I want my music to be heard and loved by people all around, I want my music to influence people to be true to themselves and never stop breaking the mold and chains set on us by society; to go forward with intent everyday to live life to the fullest and without hesitation. Life is too short some people will root for you, cheer you on, and some will despise you, and try to deter you from reaching your full potential.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Some of the best advice I can give to an up and coming artist; while being one myself is just to stay true to yourself what got you there. Never be a poser, if you think something is cool and it’s you then continue on your path, the people will catch on and love you for being you and can peep authenticity vs an act. I believe the things that got me here are being resilient, punctual, open minded and I’ll had a fourth, a little insane. You have to be a little out there to think a dream and turn it into reality, something up there has to be a little off, so off that it just might work. Maintain your morals and focus on where you’re headed not where you been.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
As an artist and musician, I am draw to things that are surrounded with and collaborate with the world of music. Subjects such as fashion, art, etc. I love to be fully immersed in that world because it inspired me so much. I am always looking to collaborate with open minds , I love learning new things and sharing knowledge is power. At times I can be spontaneous, I pride myself in creativity and I apply those skills to my forms of art. I am looking to collaborate with new up and coming artists like myself , as well as already established artists and producers, and engineers. I do not force relationships, a lot of my friends in the music scene I am friends with outside of music. I am always open to collaborating because it make be a better artist. I love the friendly competition, the urge to get a verse out of your mind and on to the mic is like a bad sneeze for me; and the excitement of knowing I got better today. Iron sharpens iron.
