We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful little luna. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with little luna below.
Hi little luna, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?
Allowing myself to create music took years of telling myself I was a) allowed to start something new and b) allowed to take up space in the music industry. Part of how this allowance arose, was from spending time in my yoga, and meditation, practices. “Self-care” can fall into so many categories, but for me, it is just allowing myself time and space to be my truest self. The impact this has had on my life is directly reflected through the lyrics of my songs.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Three and a half years ago I launched my music project under my artist name, little luna. In that time I have directed all of the music videos that have released with the songs, and created a yoga flow that goes to the exact length of each of my songs! I knew from the beginning I wanted to tie all of my loves together; my background in Film, my time as a Yoga / Meditation Guide, and my truest passion: writing and creating music. I am an independent artist, so the downside of that is that I have to fund everything myself. The upside is that I have full creative control to build this magical world that incorporates all of my passions. I make indie rock music, inspired by the 70s but based in real time. I still have days I don’t believe it, but I have already opened up for legends such as the Steve Miller Band, and 5 Seconds of Summer!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Gosh, in many ways I feel like I am just at the beginning of my hopefully life long career. That said, 3 skills I feel have been most impactful on my journey are: resilience (the ability to keep going through all of the “no’s” or “when she has more followers” responses), faith in my art (truly believing there are people out there who will connect to it), and problem solving (as an independent artist I am most of the time forging the path myself).
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
Time management (and I still have a long ways to go). To fund my music I work 2 other jobs, yet treat little luna like my full time career (because I believe one day soon it will be!) which takes me blocking out my schedule in such a manner so that everything gets done. I’ve gotten pretty good at this, but the part I need to work on is scheduling out more time to be creative, to rest, and re-set. I know these are necessities for not only my art, but my being, to carry on.
