Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Liv Antonecchia . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Liv, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Growing up in a family business definitely had a strong influence on my work ethic as an adult. I waited on customers after school in my grandparents dry cleaning store and sat in the back room watching my grandmother sew and mend customers garments. Even though I never took to sewing I know watching her create outfits out of cloth, patterns and using tools resonated with me.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I create sculptural and functional ceramic art. The majority of my work is hand built stoneware wall pieces. My most requested items are ceramic wall donuts. They have a variety of textures and glazes that mimic donuts but I don’t try to make them realistic looking. Each piece has the freedom for me to style how I want so I never feel stuck in a rut or take it too seriously. Recently I have also gone back to larger abstract sculptural forms that are freestanding either inside or outside spaces. Other work is thrown on a potters wheel as functional vases and tableware. Clay is an incredibly diverse medium and I am constantly inspired by new ideas.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
For me really knowing the material, the medium you work with is very necessary when creating work. Taking time to learn the craft before jumping into selling is important as well and I feel that has been lost over the past several years. I would also say to never stop learning and jump out of your comfort zone to learn more skills
Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
The day to day challenge I feel is a common one. Balancing home and work life when you work from home is a day to day challenge. Setting work hours and boundaries for home tasks and errands are helpful.
