Meet Liv Bailey

We recently connected with Liv Bailey and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Liv, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

Imposter syndrome isn’t easy to overcome, and I still struggle with it from time to time. Especially now, since I’m a recent graduate and seeing others around me finding opportunities, it makes me feel I am where I am supposed to be. However, the best thing that has helped me with combating imposter syndrome is having a strong support system that not only encourages and motivates me but also helps me direct myself where I need to be. In the world of art where everything is moving at a rapid speed, having this support system helps me ground myself and know I am indeed where I am supposed to be.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Hi there! My name is Liv Bailey, I am an illustrator and designer based in Savannah, Georgia! I focus on publication illustration and design where create work that is in the world of mental health, women’s rights, social issues, the underground music scene, and botanical floral elements. My work is often described as whimsical and light, combined with my graphic design experience, it has a muted, graphic, and airy element to it. My work is heavily inspired by other female publication artists, art nouveau, early printmakers, and book publishers.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I think three areas that were the most impactful in my journey so far have been, friends, college, and travel. 1. My friends are my biggest support in being my #1 fans and people I know I can also rely on for good honest feedback. Without them, I wouldn’t have made as much progress as I have on my journey. 2. My experience at College was irreplaceable, I had the greatest support system of classmates and professors. My classmates gave me fantastic feedback and helped push me to where I thought I wouldn’t be able to. My professors were fantastic mentors and helped give me a great insight into the current industry. they are also still available and I’m so thankful for that. Still living in my college town allows me to meet with them and still have that source of networking, and I am extremely thankful for that. 3. Being able to travel out of the country has been extremely eye-opening. I have been able to see landscapes and historic monuments I would have never been able to see if I hadn’t taken the chance of travel. It’s one thing to see these areas online. It’s another to see it in person with your own eyes. Being able to travel and see how different areas of art and design have made an impact in these regions, is also a great inspiration for my work and I bring it back home with me.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Of course! I’m also on the lookout for collaborative experiences. In the art world, one of the biggest things you can have is connections. Being able to collaborate with others is fantastic not only for development but expanding your audience, especially for those who might have not seen your work otherwise. I would love to collaborate with other illustrators and designers in the field, do not hesitate to reach out!
