Meet Liz Arcos

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Liz Arcos a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Liz, great to have you with us today and excited to have you share your wisdom with our readers. Over the years, after speaking with countless do-ers, makers, builders, entrepreneurs, artists and more we’ve noticed that the ability to take risks is central to almost all stories of triumph and so we’re really interested in hearing about your journey with risk and how you developed your risk-taking ability.
When we decided to become an Area Representative for OHM Fitness and a Franchisee, we knew about the risk involved. We have been through the process in the past by being a multi-unit Franchisee for European Wax Center. Our ability to take a risk at that point was sheer optimism. We wanted to start a business but at that time didn’t want to start from scratch. Starting with a franchise can indeed be a significant risk, but like many entrepreneurial ventures, it also offers potential rewards. Many of the risks were initial costs with franchise fees, ongoing fees and royalties/marketing, limited control, reputation of the brand, and market saturation. What outweighed some of those risks for us was brand recognition, support and training, systems and processes in place, purchasing power and proven model.

With OHM Fitness, we felt confident with the brand, the product and the people who founded and created it. We were ready to take on this risk and getting in early was also a pro that helped up make the decision.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Some of the areas that we look back on that has helped us moving forward, were being aware of the financial needs in starting a business. It’s not all fun and games. People enjoy the part where they go looking for space, a brick and mortar and then take a step back once they realize all the costs involved. Being knowledgeable about budgeting, forecasting and planning would be the most important skills when starting a new business.

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
Currently we have been having a hard time hiring a staff. Things have changed in the World and people are not as responsible or active in finding employment. We have noticed a lack of caring, nor need to fulfill interviews, calls and follow ups. It’s more of chasing people, then people chasing the job.
