We recently connected with Liz Coin and have shared our conversation below.
I’m not sure anyone ever fully overcomes imposter syndrome. Even RuPaul admits to “faking it til you make it.” And he’s RuPaul!
I think it’s only natural to doubt yourself as an artist, but you have to trust. Trust your higher power and just… do? it? anyway? Do it scared! Let your envy be a compass pointing your energy in the right direction. Oh, that person is further along doing the thing you’d like to do? That’s a clue! Go write down 5 ideas, go read an article, go film the thing you said you wanted to film.
Sometimes I ask myself, “What would I do today if I was allowed to get a B+?” That frees me up from the paralysis of perfection. It’s just a B+ but at least it’s done.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m a comedian, actor, and writer with an affinity for joyful, nostalgic, and (often) cringey storytelling. My background in improv and musical theater shaped how I approach live performance today: bold, energetic, and built for audience connection. I’ve been studying clown with various teachers in NYC and am learning more about vulnerability as a performer and using the audience more in every piece.
Most recently, I debuted my solo show Lizzy Sunshine at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2025, where it played at the Gilded Balloon and connected with international audiences in a really exciting way. The show is a high-energy comedy hour that I’m now expanding into a tour.
In 2026, I’ll be taking Lizzy Sunshine on the road, with tour stops planned in Chicago, Austin, London, North Carolina, Los Angeles, and then back to Edinburgh for Fringe Round Two! I’m thrilled to share this work with new cities and new audiences, and to keep building momentum for the next chapter of my career.
Outside of Lizzy Sunshine, I am performing new characters monthly with BoogieManja at The Second City NYC and developing new work at theaters all around the city.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Curiosity.
Be curious about yourself, your industry, and everyone around you. If you’re having strong feelings and impulses, don’t judge them. Look at them with curiosity and see where they take you as an artist. You don’t always have to know WHY you feel pulled – don’t think yourself to death! Being curious and paying attention gives you a bigger capacity for delight.
2. Improv.
I think the world would be better if everyone took an improv class. I urge people to sign up and go with a low bar – don’t try to be funny, just try to be present. Let your brain surprise you with how fast it can be if you aren’t judging it so harshly. Go be stupid, go play, go make eye contact in a circle with a room full of people who are also there to connect. It’s magical and it makes you a better partner, friend, employee, human, etc.
3. Write It All Down.
I never used write anything down. I boldly stated I hated journaling and I just “wasn’t a writer.” Then I did The Artist’s Way and started writing everyday. It was like meeting myself and hearing the sound of my own voice, now things just pour out. Anytime I’m frustrated, confused, alone – I turn to the page. It’s like a safe place to land and process and explore. My notes app, my notebooks, all of my belongings have scribbles of ideas or feelings or things to do. Writing is the #1 way to get closer to yourself, and thus, your goals.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
I am really struggling with overthinking my social media content/presence. I have no problem filming my live performances or filming ideas at home, but when it comes time to edit them and strategize about what I should post – I get super avoidant. I am sitting on 15-20 videos right now that I’ll try to edit but then think, “Oh this could be funnier,” or “Eh, this isn’t that special” and then I don’t post anything. It’s the people who just post it anyway, just churn out content without getting too nitpicky that seem to win. They say it’s always the videos you put the least amount of effort in that do well!
Growing an online following has become a necessity in order to be taken seriously as a comedian. Even for some acting or commercial gigs, they want you to have a certain following. I get frustrated that I didn’t start doing content sooner, that I don’t post enough, yada yada.
I am trying to just post what makes me laugh and trust that the followers will grow. My goal is 10,000 followers on Instagram before the end of 2025 and at the time of this interview I’m at 7,500. Just gotta keep grinding!
