We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Liz Dorofey a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Liz, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Ever since a young age, I found myself on the go and pushing my limits to work. I started off when I was 12 years old (until my senior year) with a paper route. My father would make sure I arrived safe and on time by dropping me off at my first stop. When I got older. I started working at the Krispy Kream in Belsano. It was here that I developed my Skills and found my passion creating culinary delights out of ice cream and delectable food. One of my biggest mentors there was my boss and friend Chrissy Hoover. She in stowed in me that constancy is key and to always push the boundaries and never to settle!
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I started this journey with my husband about 2 years ago. With my background in the culinary field. I always had a passion for hand crafted food. So, we set out on our journey, ordered a food trailer, and jumped headfirst into Life. I knew early on that along with our delectable chop steak sandwiches, and fresh cut fries. As a former Cambria County Dairy Princess, I wanted to incorporate my passion for milk shakes and ice cream into my menu! We came up with a lot of amazing specialty milkshakes that were topped with such things as GOBS, funnel cakes, pumpkin pie, and even pushed the envelope with serving one out of a pineapple. All though our trusted food menu doesn’t change, our specialty milkshakes rotate on an event basis. Along with live events, we currently handcraft subs with imported deli meats, and pizzas for Nonprofits and children’s sports teams alike. This is a new side of our business that we are excited to bring into our repertoire and love to watch as it grows!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I feel that customer service, presentation, and constancy are three of the most important qualities in my endeavor. Some of the best advice that can be given is to ALWAYS LOVE what you’re doing and try not to stress. Good vibes may start with you but makes sure they get passed on to your customers.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
One of the best qualities that was transpired to me from my parents is that always work for what you want. Nothing is given to you in life, and nothing is free.
