Meet Liza Savary

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Liza Savary. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Liza below.

Hi Liza, so happy you were able to devote some time to sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our community. So, we’ve always admired how you have seemingly never let nay-sayers or haters keep you down. Can you talk to us about how to persist despite the negative energy that so often is thrown at folks trying to do something special with their lives?

When I originally came up with the idea for our Ruggish Play Rugs, I cautiously shared it with others. The response was mostly positive, but there were a few that didn’t agree with my vision. I had believed in the product so much that was able to block out those few nay-sayers but focusing on the reason why I created it in the first place.
I constantly reminded myself of that the product wasn’t for everyone, and that was okay!

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

In 2017, when I had a 3-year old and a 1-year old, out of necessity, I created the Ruggish Play Rug a double-sided play mat that looks like a rug. Since then, we have expanded our product line and sell beyond E-COMM to high end retailers, boutiques, Amazon and Target. I have had the opportunity to have so much quality time with my babies, now “big kids” while being challenged, creative and inspired, that was my ultimate goal. I feel like having that experience while meeting other like-minded moms, whether customers or other business owners has been a dream come true.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I have a degree in Architecture and while it’s not completely similar, I found that a lot of the artistic skills and mindset I gained in that field really helped me when creating a brand. Being a mom was probably the most useful area of knowledge! We were surrounded by our own target market! Additionally, I have had experience with lighting sales, something that I kind of fell into and has been so helpful as early as our Kickstarter launch!

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

I have been very lucky to have met some amazing small business owners that are also moms of little ones like I was. We created a mastermind group and met in person monthly to check in on challenges of business and mom life. Over the past 5 years, we have shared resources, contacts and gone through ups and downs together.
