Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lizbeth Garcia. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Lizbeth, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I get my work ethic from my father. He was a deeply important figure in my life—his unbreakable spirit, dedication, and perseverance left a lasting impact on me. No matter what challenges he faced, he showed up every day with determination and integrity. Watching him taught me the value of hard work, resilience, and staying committed even when things get tough. His example shaped how I approach everything in my life, from raising my children to building my business and pursuing my education.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My name is Lizbeth Garcia, and I’m the founder and owner of Whispering Day Spa. My journey to this point has been deeply personal and shaped by resilience. As an immigrant woman, mother of three, and someone who put herself through college while navigating incredibly difficult family challenges—including supporting my oldest son through addiction—this business is more than just a livelihood for me. It’s a symbol of healing, strength, and purpose.
Whispering Day Spa was born out of a deep desire to create a space where people could feel seen, cared for, and restored. I believe self-care is not a luxury—it’s a form of survival and empowerment, especially for women who give so much of themselves every day. What makes the spa truly special is the heart behind it. Every service is delivered with compassion, intentionality, and a deep respect for each person’s story.
This next phase of growth isn’t about chasing some distant dream—it’s about chasing my true passion, rooted in lived experience, cultural pride, and a deep desire to serve. We’re expanding our offerings to include wellness workshops focused on mental health, stress relief, and personal empowerment. I’m especially excited about launching our new skincare line, made with natural, soothing ingredients inspired by the traditional practices and remedies I grew up with in Mexico.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, the three qualities that had the biggest impact on my journey were resilience, a willingness to learn, and empathy.
Resilience kept me going during the darkest times—when I felt overwhelmed by personal struggles, financial hardship, or self-doubt. It helped me stay committed to my goals, even when the path wasn’t clear.
A willingness to learn was equally powerful. Coming from a different country and speaking English as a second language, I knew I had to work twice as hard. I embraced every opportunity to educate myself, whether it was in the classroom, through mentors, or just by asking questions. That mindset turned challenges into stepping stones.
Empathy helped me connect with others, whether it was my clients, my children, or my community. It’s at the heart of everything I do, especially in my business, where people come not just for services, but to be truly cared for.
If you’re just beginning, I want you to know—starting is a powerful act of courage. I know firsthand how overwhelming it can feel at the beginning. My own battle with depression and anxiety has taught me that healing and growth are never linear. But celebrating the tiny victories along the way gives you the emotional fuel to keep going, even when progress feels slow.
Please don’t expect everything to work perfectly the first time—it won’t. And that’s actually a gift. Those imperfect moments bring authenticity to what you’re creating, and they teach you who you truly are. Remember, it’s not about chasing someone else’s dream—it’s about chasing your true passion, even if the path looks different than you expected.
As Howard Pearl said, “You need imperfections to have something to chase.” That’s what keeps the fire alive. So take a deep breath, honor your roots, trust your pace, and know that every small step forward matters. You’re not alone—and this journey, as challenging as it may be, is worth it.
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
Over the past 12 months, my biggest area of growth has been learning to slow down and reconnect with myself. For so long, I was in survival mode—juggling motherhood, my business, school, and personal challenges. But this past year, I’ve given myself permission to rest, reflect, and just be. Through journaling, therapy, and love—both for myself and from those close to me—I’ve begun healing parts of me I had ignored for years. I’m learning to release guilt, embrace joy, and treat myself with the same kindness I offer others. This journey inward has been just as important as any of my external accomplishments.
