We recently connected with Lizbeth Merida and have shared our conversation below.
Lizbeth, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
I’d say overall, I get my optimism from my family and friends. They are for sure my biggest motivation when I don’t see it in my self they do. It’s always a good feeling to know someone is looking out for you and cheering you on. For years I had been in such a tough spot with my love for makeup and publicly showing my work. I doubted my self so much, and questioned if I was even going anywhere with it. I came to realize I could choose to be shy and not get anywhere in life or start doing what I actually like and be confident because there is always room to grow and be better! I’m ready to kick off the new year with a positive mindset and making Manifest Beauty known! I owe a big thank you to my mom for believing in me and teaching me that whatever you learn you never forget and its okay if you start when you’re ready the goal is to start.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a self taught makeup artist here in Kansas City I have been into makeup since I was 17 years old. I started off doing makeup on myself since I had so much free time after school or days I was off work, also back before I was a whole mom of 2 baby boys. I had came up with a couple looks I was so in love with and very proud of. My thing was COLOR for sure! I love the bright colors the extra ASF lashes I would put on. However since doing makeup on others I have come to realize Neutral looks is 90% of what you’ll be doing. I love my natural girlies though don’t get me wrong. I am of course open for colorful photoshoot looks, or vibrant date night looks any special event I will do it. I am working on perfecting my skills as I go and will continue to do so until I am happy/content with my work, I am guilty of being my harshest critique. I have a vison for manifest beauty this upcoming year I am going in hard for this vision to come to life. For myself, and all those people who would tell me “Liz hurry up and put yourself out there, you have such a great talent.” I am manifesting it, that’s what we do. We Manifest Beauty here. I am happy to announce that this year I created my makeup pages you can now find me on Facebook and check out my work as Manifest Beauty, and Instagram as Manifest_beautyxoxo, check out my pages and book your next Glam with me! I value every single person who has come to me for their special events, I love making women feel confident and damn good about themselves I can not wait to meet more beautiful ladies.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
A quality that took time for me was definitley confidence I was always worried about what everyone would say about my looks, that had me hiding for so long worried about what the public would say. The truth is all eyes are on you and will always be on you when your job involves social media and you putting yourself out there. You just have to stay focused on you and your work and just know you are doing great even if you know you messed up. keep on doing what your doing you’ll look back one day and just be in awe of how far you have come, trust me. Like dory from Nemo said “Just keep Swimming.” Its going to be okay believe in yourself. A skill I learned as well was actually communication, before I would sit in so much silence because I couldn’t multi task while talking and focusing on my clients makeup, Im not the best yet but I have improved so much and know for sure ill master it. Doing peoples makeup requires communication and speaking up asking questions and also allowing your client to feel confortable with you so a little talking to break the ice is good. Lastly trying your best to organize and plan for yourself is something super important, Its important to have all your ducks in a row because you have to schedule and make sure you don’t double book make sure to plan ahead so that you arent running late to places and taking longer then what the client has time wise.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Honestly a lot of people but the top four would definitly be my mom who has pushed me so much and helped me get back on my feet when I had thought I lost interest in makeup after having my first baby and being in a tough place. She shined her little light on me and for that I am thankful. My older sister yessenia bless her heart she is such a heartless person and such a cheerleader. Any time she can she could, she would be like SISTERR I got you this for your makeup collection. Always thinking about me and spreading my business out there with her friends, or just sharing my posts and cheesing so hard when I tell her I have another client. My best friend Sarahi who trusted me doing her makeup in the very beginning of my practice days she has seen me go through my changes and always lets me know I am doing great on any makeup look I do. Of course last but not least my friend Ashleigh I remember telling her once that I did makeup on the side and showed her some of my looks back when she was my manager at this restaurant we worked at in 2018. Ever since, she has been my motivator and the one that really pushed me this year by allowing me to do makeup for a wedding photo shoot for her business Avenue Blue. I was sweating and very scared it was my first real event and I was super honored she remembered me. After that day I remember feeling like I overcame something I felt a boost of energy it was my first time and I think I did very good if I do say so myself. Im very thankful for each and everyone of them and the people that continue to book with me much love.
