We were lucky to catch up with Logan Donald recently and have shared our conversation below.
Logan, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
My passion for filmmaking comes from the experience itself. When I was a kid I dreamed of working at the local Blockbuster. A lot of that stems from core memories of sharing movies and tv shows with others. I remember sitting on my grandpas lap in the theater watching The Fellowship of the Ring. It was such a special moment and I think that particular film as well also developed this craving for incredible experiences watching movies. The biggest part of that is creating movies that invite people into this atmosphere where they can engage with the conflict within themselves. Thats my purpose. I want people to have emotional journeys with the art I create.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Logan Donald and I am the founder and CEO of, ShutterStinct, an Atlanta based production company. The soul of ShutterStinct was crafted in my time at college but the vision was refined through years of experiences and failures. I think that’s also part of the key to any amount of success we have at the moment. The team and I are incredibly grateful for where the business is at and where it’s going these next few months. Some of our goals include leveraging our original IP and developing relationships with creative groups, agencies, and marketing teams. Our end goal is to build a sustainable network of creatives where content is owned, produced, and distributed without the traversing a more gated traditional method.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The biggest things I advocate for is taking risks. I think the biggest hurdle any creative, but filmmakers especially, is learning how to take calculated risks. Whether that be with budgets, stunts, picking up a camera for the first time, or even posting your own work on socials. In the past I found myself leaving a lot in the tank. ideas I didn’t try, shots I didn’t try. etc.
The long haul is where I found my success. I struggled so long looking for some sort of validation on socials or comparing my work to someone else and wondering why the follows and likes never came. With that being said, I work in and industry where numbers speak. But establishing your identity in data and metrics is a sure way of finding yourself always unhappy and discontent.
Finding a good way to communicate vision to a team or client is invaluable. Theres no special key, app, or strategy. You have to find a way where your words or collection of images in a moodboard can communicate whatever you see or hear in your head. I have found so many wins in the prep stages of a project where you plan out with documents, photos, test images, to help communicate vision.
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
The heart of ShutterStinct is community. I feel like every corporation says that but what we want to avoid doing is building some sort of shiny object to attract artists and creatives to that doesn’t really benefit or create value for them. Something that always comes to mind when I’m communicating this vision is Atmosphere. We want to build a place where creatives thrive. Find us on socials and lets work.
