Meet Logan Rackliff

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Logan Rackliff a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Logan, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

I can say deeply, truthy, resolutely that I get 100% of my resilience from The Lord my God. My faith in Jesus Christ as my King and Savior has lead me to have limitless relationship of hope, joy and peace with God the Father. In prayer and in God’s word I find hope and steadfastness. I would be amiss to not mention the the support of my wife, brother’s and sisters in Christ and from my father, mother and grandparents, but I also know these are gifts from God and Him working through them.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m a fifth generation Lobsterman and a third generation rope-maker, coming from generations of entrepreneurs. I have lived a blessed life spending a lot of great time with good people and doing fun things, mostly outdoor activities like hunting, fishing, boating, etc. with family and especially my father. I was an athlete in high school and love to compete. In my teens I started partying pretty hard, mostly drinking and chasing things that world tells us is good. Thankfully I finally came to a low point when I was 20 at which time Jesus Christ found me and I found Him. There was finally a change in my heart and it was very slow but little by little I started pursuing truly good things. Shortly after that God lead to me to my now wife Hannah who was also a believer, but neither of us really walking with The Lord on daily basis, more just going through the motions. We were married in September 2012 when I was 24 and she 23 and I thank God every day for her, as God works through her to make me more like Christ and trust me it’s been a lot of work for both of them dealing with me. Hannah and I started The Rope Company in 2013, while I was still lobstering after college and she was a dental hygienist. We now have three beautiful children God has blessed us with and Hannah is a stay-at-home mom and is homeschooling. In 2022 we felt God was telling us to focus completely on The Rope Company so we put a pause on lobstering for now after 24 years of having my own boat and fishing the Maine coast.

At The Rope Company our purpose is to inspire and equip people to create more peace, beauty, and joy in their homes and lives.
Our vision is to disrupt the current buying culture that leads to chaos in our homes and lives, and to transform it to one that leads to more peace. I love doing my best to be a great, godly leader and business owner. I am thankful for the team and brand we’ve built and I’m excited for what the future has for us, so many opportunities especially as people realize more and more what true, authentic quality and story in a digital world of things that aren’t real and a consumer-buying-cultures that promotes just getting as much stuff as possible.

We love to create intentional, timeless products that are both beautiful and practical. We love making products here in the USA, more specifically in our home state of Maine. Most of all we love to serve and put others, taking care of each other and our customers.

Since you asked we do have really neat new products coming out. Where our classic doormats are mainly purposed for outside an entryway door, we have a new product that great for both outdoor (though it will soak up water, which also makes it good for wiping wet feet) and indoors. Where our classic ropemat is rough on the feet, that mat is very soft and nice to barefeet. We also have these amazing baskets coming out that everyone will have to stay tuned to our email and instagram for!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1. Coming to faith in Jesus Christ and the God of the bible. Though of course there has been plenty of challenges since that point in my life the blessings, peace, hope, steadfastness and joy that have come have been amazing beyond words, but this faith and the virtues of it are also important for those hard times, not going as low for as long or possibly not going low at all when otherwise I may have.

2. Through the process of pursuing a relationship with God, even though I am still more selfish than I’d like to be, I think my mindset has become more and more others-focused and that is an invaluable thing. If you can become more humble all the time is great thing to strive for and be valued.

3. While attempting to become a great business owner God has lead me to many good resources starting with Zig Ziglar, Patrick Lencioni, Entreleadership and many, many other great books and resources that have helped me to be a better leader and owner. I still have a long, long ways to go though and much to improve on.

I can’t stress enough the importance of truly exploring the bible and getting to truths in there, coming to faith in Jesus Christ is the single most important thing you can do for your life and your family, I’ve lived it, am living it and have seen it in so many others. I have seen nothing else that helps and/or turns people around like this. Other than these things Entreleadership is a great resource to get direction and find many other resources. Of course always find people you want to be like and surround yourself with them.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

My father, being a lobsterman his whole life and then starting a couple manufacturing business, instilled a fantastic work-ethic in me. He also took his time and took me everywhere with him, we mostly would go hunting or fishing and I fell in love with the outdoors and today these are strong passions in my heart and I feel a constant calling to go.

When I was very young my mother brought me to church and had me around many Godly people and this played a huge role in me turning from a useless, selfish person in my late-teens and early twenties slowly in to someone who might actually benefit others around then and society. Mom was always very supportive of everything I did, active, encouraging, but she certainly gave me the greatest gift introducing to the God of the bible and His Son Jesus Christ.
