Meet Logan Shaw

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Logan Shaw a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Logan, thank you for joining us today and sharing your experiences and acquired wisdom with us. Burnout is a huge topic these days and so we’d love to kick things off by discussing your thoughts on overcoming or avoiding burnout

I prevent burnout by maintaining a balanced approach to my work. While I am passionate about what I do, I ensure that it does not consume me. I am supported by a strong team that allows me the flexibility to rest and complete tasks efficiently. I set clear boundaries, draw inspiration from my own creativity, and trust my team to manage responsibilities when needed. Outside of work, I prioritize exercise, rest, and mindfulness to sustain both my physical and mental well-being.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am a cinematographer, photographer, and editor dedicated to helping athletes and entrepreneurs elevate their digital presence through storytelling, photojournalism, and high-quality content. My work focuses on capturing compelling visuals that highlight the passion, dedication, and unique journeys of my clients.

I showcase my creativity and portfolio on Instagram (@JiggyTheShooter), which has also been instrumental in securing freelance opportunities. I exclusively use Sony equipment, as I believe it allows me to perform at the highest level and deliver exceptional results.

Looking ahead, my goal is to transition from the traditional 9-to-5 structure to full-time freelancing and ultimately scale a media agency, basketball agency, and digital marketing group. Through these ventures, I aim to create impactful content and provide strategic storytelling solutions that empower brands and individuals to stand out in the digital space.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

First, finding a mentor is invaluable for accelerating growth and avoiding unnecessary trial and error. For me, that mentor was Julius Tanks, also known as FullPriceMedia, a cinematographer, music engineer, and artist based in Reno, Nevada. His guidance helped me develop my craft efficiently and reach my goals much faster than I could have on my own. I always pay homage to him for the role he played in my journey.

Second, self-motivation is essential. In this industry, no one wants to constantly direct you on what to do—they expect you to take initiative and execute at a high level. Developing a strong work ethic and the ability to push yourself forward, even without external pressure, is what sets professionals apart.

Lastly, soft skills have been crucial to my success. The ability to communicate effectively, present ideas with confidence, and build strong relationships is just as important as technical skills. Whether working with clients, networking, or collaborating on projects, knowing how to articulate your vision and engage with others professionally can open doors and create new opportunities.

For those early in their journey, I recommend seeking a mentor who aligns with your goals, cultivating a relentless drive to improve, and investing time in developing strong communication skills. These three areas will not only accelerate your progress but also set you apart in the competitive world of media and content creation.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

One of the most impactful things my parents did for me was owning and operating a foster home. They founded Shaw Foster Homes, and it played a pivotal role in my development. Growing up in that environment, I was surrounded by mentors from all walks of life who invested their time, love, and patience in me.

Beyond the lessons I learned, I am incredibly grateful for the brothers and sisters who became part of my life through my parents’ commitment to helping others. Their love and dedication to providing a safe and supportive home for so many not only shaped who I am today but also instilled in me the importance of giving back and uplifting those around me.
