Meet Logen Oatmeal

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Logen Oatmeal a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Logen, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

Growing up I faced many hardships from a very young age. I learned fast to be adaptive and tough. At the age of four I was walking blocks to the store alone. My mom was an addict my entire life. My youngest memories of her include her leaving me in the car for hours on end while she was in bars or stores and the scariest memory of her telling my sister and I to say goodbye to each other for she was about to drive us off of a bridge and end all of our lives. Around the age of 8 I moved with my dad and step mom and lived an abusive life there. From having to bend over and touch our toes for hours , to drinking spoon fulls of hot sauce and coffee grinds for entertainment to adults. I got put in foster care at the age of 12 and jumped around homes and cities. I’ve met a ton of different people and feel like I’ve lived a ton of different lives. Resilience comes from knowing it can be worse – and is for someone else right now- resilience comes from knowing the strangest and scariest moments will eventually come to an end.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I prank call for a living ! It’s the absolute coolest job because I have full creative freedom, work from home , and fully fund my life and home from comedy.

I will do a call for someone and they get the personalized video pranking a friend or family member to keep forever. I’ve had people email me years later saying the video is still a staple of family conversations and inside jokes.

I love that I bring joy to so many different people , families and friend groups.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I would definitely say the most impactful skill to have in the comedy prank calling “industry” is the ability to be quick witted. Not thinking about what you say , just saying what comes to mind immediately. Sometimes it catches me off guard too.

When talking to all different kinds of personalities it helps that I’ve lived in so many different areas. I think a huge skill I have is that I’m personable and able to relate with everyone on some level.

I also think a skill I have that lead to success in this career is just overall optimism. Being a genuine, laid back happy gal makes me easily approachable , no request is too weird or stupid.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?

My biggest obstacle is feeling like I don’t belong. Imposter syndrome. I’ve gained over a million followers and have spoken to countless celebrities and brands and I always feel under qualified or out of place.

What I’ve been doing to overcome this is trying regular conversation with people and creators I am inspired by. Really surrounding myself with people that inspire me to go further in my career and remind me that everyone is a regular person
