Meet Loghan Burkes

We were lucky to catch up with Loghan Burkes recently and have shared our conversation below.

Loghan, sincerely appreciate your selflessness in agreeing to discuss your mental health journey and how you overcame and persisted despite the challenges. Please share with our readers how you overcame. For readers, please note this is not medical advice, we are not doctors, you should always consult professionals for advice and that this is merely one person sharing their story and experience.

During my sophomore year of College I was Diagnosed with Premenstrual Dystrophic Disorder(PMDD). For years, I struggled to understand why my emotions would spiral every month. Every month many women have hormonal spikes that interact with emotions and our mental state but the days before my cycle felt like a storm — overwhelming sadness, irrational thoughts, irritability, and a sense of hopelessness that didn’t match the rest of my life. It became so intense and prominent that my family became concerned.
The turning point came when I reached out to my doctor and finally put a name and reason to what I was feeling. I learned that PMDD is a severe form of PMS, not a personal weakness. Therapy and open conversations with my healthcare provider helped me understand the biological and hormonal aspects of what I was experiencing. This helped me to not only accept my new reality but also prompting me to find ways to combat it.
I began tracking my cycle and moods, which helped me anticipate tough days. Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and mindfulness practices became part of my self-care routine. I also found that setting boundaries and communicating openly with friends and loved ones helped reduce stress. Overcoming PMDD hasn’t been about eliminating the struggle completely it’s about learning to manage it with compassion. I’ve learned to honor my body, listen to its needs, and treat myself gently. Every cycle is a reminder of my strength and my commitment to healing. To anyone facing PMDD or other hormonal mood disorders — you’re not alone. Seeking help is not a sign of weakness; it’s an act of courage.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I have the privilege of wearing two hats that both center around one big passion. I like to say I get to be part of some of the biggest chapters in people’s lives — finding their dream home and celebrating their dream day! By day, I’m a licensed NC/SC Realtor here in Charlotte, helping clients navigate this amazing city and find a place that truly feels like home. There’s so much energy and growth here, and I love matching people with neighborhoods that fit their lifestyle whether that’s a cozy spot near the city or something more peaceful in the suburbs or the outskirts like Gastonia/Mooresville.

On the wedding side, I am a coordinating assistant(Crystal Clear Events) — helping couples bring their vision to life on one of the most important days of their lives. It’s all about details, timing, and creating a sense of calm in the midst of excitement. There’s nothing quite like watching a couple’s hard work and love story come together seamlessly in a joyous and stress free day.
What ties both roles together for me is connection. Whether it’s helping a family find their forever home or ensuring a wedding day flows effortlessly, I get to be part of milestones that matter. My brand is rooted in care, organization, and authenticity — I truly love what I do, and I want every client to feel seen, supported, and celebrated whether I’m unlocking a new front door or watching a couple walk down the aisle.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, the three qualities that have had the biggest impact on my journey are perseverance, adaptability, and empathy.

Perseverance has been everything. In real estate, things don’t always go as planned — deals fall through, timelines change, and sometimes you just have to keep showing up even when it’s tough. Early on, I learned that success doesn’t happen overnight. You have to stay consistent, keep learning, and trust the process. My advice to anyone starting out is to be patient with yourself. Keep going, even when the path feels uncertain. Every challenge you push through builds confidence and resilience for the next one.
Adaptability has also been key. Working in real estate, the market can shift quickly, and in weddings, no two events are ever the same. Learning to adjust and think on your feet has helped me stay calm and find creative solutions when things change last minute. For anyone developing this skill, I’d say: stay curious and flexible. Be willing to pivot, and don’t see change as failure, it’s just an opportunity to grow in a new direction.
And finally, Empathy. It’s truly at the heart of what I do. Whether someone is buying their first home or planning their dream wedding, these are deeply emotional milestones. Taking the time to understand how people feel and what matters most to them creates trust and connection. My advice here is simple: lead with kindness. The more you care about the people you serve, the more meaningful your work becomes.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

My mother has done so many impactful things in my life but one that has always stuck with me was instill the value of doing good by people. Growing up, she was always involved in our community, whether it was volunteering, helping at church, or simply showing kindness wherever she could to someone in need. She taught me that success doesn’t just come from what you achieve, but from how you treat others along the way.
That lesson has shaped everything I do, both as a realtor and as a wedding coordinating assistant. My mom taught me the importance giving back even if all I have to give is my time. Whether I’m helping a client find their dream home or supporting a couple on their big day, I try to bring that same spirit of care, integrity, and community into my work.
It’s something I carry with me daily: lead with kindness, stay connected, and always do right by people.
