Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Loide Davis . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Loide with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I am from Sicily, Italy, and I come from a large family of five children. My parents did everything they could to raise us, and I always saw my dad working tirelessly to provide for our family. The economy in Sicily was not the best, so we often struggled financially.
I grew up in a small town with limited work opportunities, and unfortunately, business owners often took advantage of good people by underpaying them. When I moved to the USA eight years ago, I knew I wanted to open a business of my own but do it the right way.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Seven years ago, I opened my on-site child care business, which has allowed me to meet a lot of people and make a meaningful impact in their lives. Providing on-site child care for events gives families the opportunity to enjoy themselves without the stress of worrying about their children.
A month ago, I expanded my business by opening an indoor playroom, where I offer a safe and fun space for children to play with their parents. This playroom also serves as a venue for birthday parties and other events. It’s a fantastic place for moms to meet, make friends, and build relationships with one another.
My indoor playroom is located in Virginia Beach, a community with a significant military presence. In military life, it’s easy to feel isolated and lose touch with friends. My business create an opportunity for families with young children to connect and support each other.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
One of my strongest skills is being a people person. I genuinely love talking with people and learning from them. I strive to practice generosity in all aspects of life, and what I’ve learned about business is that it’s not just about making money; it’s about building relationships.
My passion lies in creating work opportunities for others. The advice I would give to aspiring business owners is to always do the right thing, be humble, and stay true to yourself. Never forget where you come from, and make it a priority to help your community through your work.
If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
The challenge I am facing is that I am managing my business alone, which means I have to make all the decisions by myself. I’ve learned the importance of seeking advice from other business owners and learning from their experiences. Running a business is a continuous learning journey if you want to achieve excellence.
Being a business owner can sometimes feel isolating, which is why it’s crucial to find a circle of community and friends outside of work. Having that support network is essential for personal and professional growth.
