Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lolita Christian. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Lolita, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
I would certainly say that my generosity comes from God because he’s the best teacher when it comes to kindness and giving. In His generosity He’s blessed me to have an art studio of my own, which is something that most creatives dream of and can rarely afford as a separate space to call their own where they can immerse themselves in their passion. I really longed for a studio when I didn’t have one and now it’s lead me to offer what I call Expression Sessions at my art studio, which are free. At the Daughter of David art studio, Expression Sessions allow people of all ages to book an appointment where they will be supplied with a canvas, paint, and brushes to express themselves via the medium of acrylic paint. This elevates alleviates the need to spend money on art supplies as well as gives a space to people who may have the supplies, but nowhere to create in peace. This also gives up and coming artist the chance to ask me questions concerning styles, mediums, and pick my brain as far as my own personal experience as an artist. I see it as a way to give back to others, especially the creatives.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am what I like to refer to as the The Complete Creative. I’m very excited that most recently I’ve had the honor to be named as one of Legacy MIA Magazine’s “40 Under 40” Miami’s Black Leaders of Today and Tomorrow as well as 103.5 The BEAT’s Positive Impact Black Owned Businesses for black Black Business Month just this past August.
I love all things involving creativity from visual art, to writing, poetry, and interior design. I also love content creation. I own Daughter of David, which is an art business wherein I’m a visual artist and have my own online art lounge and studio location. I also own a God’s Development Plan, which is a social media platform I began via YouTube that’s mainly centered around vlogging and personal spiritual growth journey and a hodge-podge of everyday life content.
My most recent project, which I’m very proud of is my book Supernatural Weight Loss, wherein I share how through Jesus Christ I have been able to shed sixty pounds of unhealthy weight. Going from a Type II diabetic to, diabetes, and from imbalanced hormone levels, to normal hormone levels all through the healing power of Jesus guiding me lovingly on what foods and lifestyle changes are best for my individual body. I’ve recently released the Audio Book on Audible, as well as the E-book, and paperback, which is illustrated although it’s not a children’s book and all formats are available via amazon for anyone who is desiring to have optimal health without starving or going through a boot camp like exercise regiment to do so. It’s effective so I’m always excited when people message me and tell me it’s working for them.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think three important areas of qualities, skills, and knowledge that were most impactful on my journey are relationships, faith, and vision. My advice to people who maybe early on in their journey within any business is to understand that no one does it alone, relationships are important. Value people at all levels, never ignore anyone because they don’t seem worthy today because tomorrow they just may sky rocket and you always want to be rememberer for your kindness to people, not your arrogance. I would also say have faith, trust God to lead you because faith will keep you going on the days that no one believes in you or what you’re doing, faith will say “see it through , you’re going to make it, don’t give up”. Lastly, I would advise a person to have a vision because there is a scripture that says “where there is no vision the people perish” (Proverbs 29:18) and I definitely have had times where I lost my vision in my journey and basically became very disheartened and had to recalibrate but if you write out your vision and make it plain, holding tightly to it you’ll definitely be more resilient when hardships creep up as they always do in life.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
I would say a book that has definitely played an important role in my development in Killing Comparison by Nona Jones, which takes a biblical and spiritual approach towards resisting the urge in a social media reel driven society to compare your reality to the highlight reels of others. The book drops gems of wisdom concerning how to appreciate the person God has created you to be and focus on the abundance that He has placed in you versus the perceived lack due to measuring yourself against someone else. It’s life changing, but the title alone requires a certain level of humility to cause you to read it because most people will brush it off assuming it’s a kind of help they don’t need when in fact many of us do.
