We were lucky to catch up with Loren Howard recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Loren, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
When I was a kid, I loved sports, and any time I had was spent playing, practicing, and becoming the best athlete I could be. When I started playing football, a whole new world of possibility was opened, and I was laser-focused on becoming a professional athlete.
I wanted to play on a professional level, and in college was awarded Freshman All-American Defensive End and Big Ten Defensive Freshman of The Year. In my sophomore year, I was All-Conference Defensive End, and in my Junior year, Preseason Mel Kiper ranked me the second defensive end to go in the draft. My sports career was cut short due to an injury, leaving me no choice but to pursue a different path.
Following the end of my football career, I chose to become an entrepreneur. There was so much that I had to learn about business, and the learning curve made it difficult at times. My first company was not a success, but it led to me growing valuable connections, knowledge, and experience that I would carry over to the next business. I learned as quickly as I could and tapped into my drive and passion which gave me invaluable knowledge for future businesses. Now I have launched several companies into the 8-figure mark in different industries.
Each of those experiences has made the next business easier and made me more resilient to change over time. If you are continually learning from your experiences, you will tap into your true potential.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am the founder of Prime Plus Mortgages, a hard money lender and mortgage note company that helps investors find funds for their real estate investments and the right mortgage note to diversify their portfolios.

We simplify funding for real-estate investments and focus on making the funding easy and fast. With our mortgage notes, we wanted to bring that same clarity and ease of mind — which is why our estate note investments are first-position deeds of trust, low risk, and serviced by us for easier note investments.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
3 skills that have made me who I am today are my vision, drive, and learning mindset. As a leader, you need to be able to see the bigger picture and visualize how to get where you want or need to be. For leaders being able to have vision is an extremely important skill set you bring to the table. Use visualization exercises and learn about your industry to set goals and hit them.
Drive and motivation is an essential key to success for an entrepreneur. You need to motivate and inspire yourself for growth. Be Passionate and enthusiastic about what you do, your industry, new skills, and ideas. Avoid burnout but build a routine that fuels your passion.
As a leader, you must have an extensive understanding of your field and industry. Maintaining this mastery requires continuous learning and growth, and building and maintaining a growth mindset. Take action to learn and spot new market trends, technologies, and market movements. Make an effort to learn something new each day– stay up-to-date with reading materials on these topics and find inventive strategies to make use of fresh trends for success!
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
John Lewis, my business partner, has profoundly impacted not only my success but how I conduct myself as an entrepreneur. He’s been a great mentor: his expertise has steered decisions and ensured that I experience and learn, which built my confidence as an entrepreneur. We’ve had great ventures together, most of which are attributed greatly due to his mentoring and guidance.
