Meet Lorena Lorenzo Garcia

We recently connected with Lorena Lorenzo Garcia and have shared our conversation below.

Lorena, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

I will say ppl often build resilience by overcoming challenges in their lives.
Each time someone faces adversity and learns how to manage it, they develop coping tools that make them stronger for the next challenge.
I feel this was the story of my life always! I had no option but to do it ( whatever it was)
A resilient person often has an optimistic outlook or at least a belief that challenges can be handled, like I had to do so many times in my life. I was never also afraid to be seeing trying and sometimes I see setbacks as temporary and as opportunities to learn, rather than as permanent failures…

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m a Cuban/ Canadian visual artist, painter, illustrator & tattooer base in Toronto .
I’m a small business owner since 2016 when I Corp. my company. I’ve been doing art work for over 25+ years, tattooing for over 17 years, I’ve been international published in different magazines. When it comes to tattoos My work goes beyond body decor, I do a lot of work over scars, with cancer survivors, so many clients come to me after surgeries for coverups. I empower ppl, I make them feel beautiful and confident again in their skin.
I’ve been professionally trained and have plenty of experience doing projects that other artist can’t do or they feel out of their comfort zone.
When it comes to artwork and paintings, always like doing things on the brighter side, bold, colourful and beautiful. All over my artwork you can feel the Caribbean vibes, my culture, very tropical. When it comes to tattooing I’ve learn to work with the clients always, identify their needs, excel on the body art, make their tattoo experience better. Provide them with the right information post care and always follow up with them if they seek for any assistance
So I could say indigo art studio is a multi purpose artistic studio space where peeps can feel save, comfortable, a place where we not only decorate your walls. We also decorate your body permanently.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Having Skills & Competence. Being really good at what you do, whether that’s technical ability, creativity, problem-solving, or leadership. I like Staying curious and constantly learning, keeps you relevant and valuable.
Relationships & Networking. Success isn’t just what you know, but also who knows you. Building trust, communicating well, and connecting with mentors, colleagues in the artistic community and clients opens doors that skills alone can’t.
Resilience & Adaptability. Remember, Every career has setbacks, changes, or rejections.
The ability to bounce back, stay flexible, and keep moving forward often determines who lasts and grows
So my advice is: master your craft, build strong connections, and stay resilient.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

Helped me to become the person I am today. Super important. Kindness and Respect. Treating people (and themselves) with compassion, empathy, and fairness. I believe This builds strong relationships and a sense of humanity to all of us.
Resilience and Problem-Solving. My parents Teach me to not fear mistakes, but to learn from them. Helping me to understand that challenges are part of growth, and that I have the tools to keep going.
My Self-Worth and my Confidence.
My parents always let me know that they love me and value me for who I am, not just for what I achieve. It build me a strong sense of self worth and helps me to resist negativity and make healthier choices for my life.
The Responsibility and Integrity. Because to my dad Owning my actions, being honest, and following through on commitments, was very important. And I appreciate how this creates trust and independence sense in my persona.
Curiosity and Love of Learning
My parents encouraged me to ask all the questions, explore creativity and be free thinker. It kept my mind open and prepare me for a lifetime of growth.
