Meet Loretta Pickett

We recently connected with Loretta Pickett and have shared our conversation below.

Loretta, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

Knowing who I am and what my strengths and weaknesses are, I find myself intrigued to flourish within my effectiveness in any room regardless of the diversity in that environment. That is what drives my successfulness in distinct settings. Every encounter I am honored to be a part of is a learning opportunity to network and commune with like-minded people whether that be the general public or gaining knowledge/wisdom from other business owners.

My Mother and Father would always say “A closed mouth doesn’t get fed”, and now, embarking on this entrepreneurship journey I have found the greatest truth in their words of wisdom. There is always and delineate time and place that we will all find ourselves anxiously awaiting the “removal of the vail” state of grounding experiences in life. Wanting to know what “this new” evoking correlation will be like. That is what I think of when I enter any room delighted with the presence of others that don’t look like me.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Being a Black Women, Mother, Business Owner, College graduate and more, many know me as a diligent, dedicated, serial “Goal” Digger. If I see it, I go after it, and I get it. If I say I am going to do something, no matter how long it takes me, 100% of the time, that goal will be accomplished with prestige, class, and undeniable hard work.

My name to most is “Your Favorite Seasoning Lady” and I do everything within me to live up to that. I think the seasonings I blend are so good they probably just forgot my real name, but I’m okay with that. Lol! As long as they remember my son Dupree, that’s all that really matters to me. I established Dupree Seasonings in memory of my First-born son, who was tragically killed in a drunk driving accident.

Dupree was the passenger seat victim to the drunk driver and Dupree’s body wasn’t found until the 3rd week of him being in the water. April 23, 2020, will always be the worst day of life, but I soon chose to keep his memory alive by doing something he would have loved to do. Which is cook, sing and as he would say “Look good while doing it” lol! The Look good part comes from our choices to eat healthy, maintaining a balanced palate to increase longevity in living and I wanted to do that for others the same way we Loved to do it for ourselves. I knew that I didn’t have enough time, patience or energy to cook for others, so I decided to provide the most important part. The seasoning.

My “Dupree Seasonings” Brand does just that. It provides our family of customers with Quality, Healthy and Flavorful blends that are Low sodium and non-Sodium, Low sugar and non-Sugar, Gluten free, non-GMO, non-dairy, nut-free vegan, they contain NO fillers, or anticaking agents, and are Freshly packed and sealed to aid in the greatest advantages. Maintaining potency and the shelf life minimum of 2 years.

What’s most exciting is that I have now established and created an avenue in which My son’s name and memory of who he was will always be spoke of and remembered. A legacy if you will. A Great one at that. I am the cultural custodian of my son Dupree and every day that makes me smile.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

3 Qualities, Skills, or Areas of knowledge…Hmmm? I’ll pick one of each.

1. Qualities:

I’m a fighter, and I mean that in the most Aggressive and Gentle way. Depending on what I’m up against, either response will reign supreme.

2. Skills:

I multitask like a contender and when I’m done, I conquer it all like a champion.

3. Areas of knowledge:

God is My ultimate source; I could never deny that. When there was no-one, He was and still is my Everything. That is the best knowledge this life has afforded me with, and it will remain the most Valuable ingredient to my living.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I would defiantly Love to collab! That would be so fun and refreshing. The folks I would Love to collab with would have to be visionaries. Big thinkers, not afraid of fear. I believe Fear is where the Strength begins.
Ones who Love Quality and want to provide Quality for others. Ones who want to increase health and Ones who have a heart for the people.

…..and you have to Love good food and especially Great Seasonings! Lol. I want to gel with the “think outside the boxer’s”. Let grow and maximize the memory of Dupree while giving our communities what they need. More Life and More Happiness.
