We were lucky to catch up with Lori Bezerra recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lori, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
Growing up I’ve always tried to fit in. I was always the outcast, who couldn’t have long lasting relationships, not even with friends, because I had to move every 3 years to a different city, a different house, a different school. I had a lot to say, but couldn’t find words to describe what I was feeling. That’s when my older sister started studying photography and I had my first contact with the visual storytelling.
So I found in photography a way to tell the world how beauty can be found even in the most ordinary things. The day to day activities can become such a cinematic scene if you know how to observe it. My purpose is to tell people’s stories without using words, is to spread joy by giving people a reason to smile. My favorite moment is when people look at themselves in the photos and I see their eyes shining!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a Brazilian portrait photographer living in NYC for a little while now. I grew up on the road, living in different cities throughout my life, and that’s why photography has such a beautiful meaning in my life, because I had to rely on photographs to be able to remember the places and people I met along the way.
I believe that telling real stories and making true connections are what’s gonna be the change in the world, essentially. As a latino woman, it can be very challenging to thrive in a city like NYC, but I believe I’m exactly where I need to be. I love working with people who are also passionate about creating something unique and different.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I believe the most important thing is to know how to connect with people, and be nice. Learn how to read their expressions, and bring out the best of them. In my sessions I always make some time before the sessions to talk to my models, connect with their stories, and learn a bit about their personalities.
Another great knowledge I acquired was during college. I graduated in Fashion Design and Communications, so those few years in college gave me the experience I needed to deal with clients, brands, models, and know how to live in society. Volunteering in companies and studios that you want to work with, will give you all the knowledge and business experience that you need to thrive anywhere.
Last, but not least, I would say the most important is: travel! Go out in the wild, meet new people, explore different places, get in touch with different cultures. Try different things. Expand your mind to these experiences and you will find your voice and place in the world.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Yes I am! I have my business and clients, but I have tons of ideas of personal projects that I’m super excited to bring them to reality! I love bold, different and unique styles. If you’re a model, or a brand, that has crazy, funky ideas for your next project, let’s work together! I’m gonna love to create with you 🙂
