We recently connected with Lotus Buckner and have shared our conversation below.
Lotus, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I haven’t! Ha! Similar to confidence, getting through imposter syndrome is a journey, not a destination. I’ve learned to view my imposter syndrome differently. First, I no longer see it as this horrible thing that plagues my every day. I see it as a sign that I’m still learning and growing, which to me, is a great thing! It’s also a reminder that I care about something because usually my imposter syndrome creeps up when it is something that means something to me, something I’m passionate about. Otherwise, I wouldn’t even be doing it or trying to do it. Secondly, I see imposter syndrome as something that I manage, not that I get rid of. To manage it, I acknowledge that I am capable and worthy and break up my goal for that specific situation into smaller, more manageable steps that are less intimidating. I have also learned that getting started is often the hardest part so doing things scared has also helped me manage imposter syndrome.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Self-awareness: Engage in deep self-reflection, not surface-level reflections like most people do. Go deeper. Become intimate with what your default reactions are to different types of situations, what your comfort zones are and what you’re uncomfortable with, your perceptions, your biases, etc. There is no real self-improvement without self-awareness.
Resilience: Do things scared, challenge yourself, take some thoughtful risks, surround yourself with people who are different than you in every way, and push yourself out of your comfort zone. All of these things will build your resilience muscles, which will help you persevere through even the toughest challenges that life throws your way.
Agility: Being able to respond quickly and effectively in the face of change and obstacles is a critical skill. Gain this by staying curious, asking questions, and looking at problems and situations with as fresh of eyes as possible (versus biased eyes).
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
