Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Louie Pello. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Louie , thank you so much for making time for us today. Let’s jump right into a question so many in our community are looking for answers to – how to overcome creativity blocks, writer’s block, etc. We’d love to hear your thoughts or any advice you might have.
So I have a go to move in this situation. I’ve shared this tip with many artist over the years and I truly believe in it. Whenever an artist is in a writers block I think the best way to break that cycle is by listening to your favorites. Everybody has a favorite artist and album, most of us are influenced by a few particular artist that we love. So when it’s time to put pen to paper but you can’t seem to get the creative juices flowing my advice is to take a break and for 1-3 days just listen to the music that inspired you to even attempt to become an artist in the first place. For me that’s Wiz Khalifa’s “Kush and OJ” or Mac Millers “Macadelic” .
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m just doing what I love and what comes natural to me. My goal has always been to make authentic music that speaks to people that have gone through the same struggles and tribulations I’ve faced throughout my journey. I started as a kid freestyling in the backseat of smokey cars with friends just trying to make them laugh with some clever and well delivered rhymes. Now you can Google “Louie Pello” or “Purple Static” and 100’s of songs, videos, and pictures pop up. What was once a fun interest I had with my peers turned into a career I cherish. I’ve been in rooms with people I never thought I’d meet or work with and I try to never take that for granted.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
#1 for me would be who you have around you as you develop as an artist. It’s critical and very overlooked. I had some new people come into my life a few years into my career that really impacted my growth. They gave me so much confidence and was willing to put in the work with me. Late nights grinding over beats and lyrics over and over . Go with the people that believe in you and are willing to cross through any valley .
#2 Patience is a vital skill often not appreciated. Don’t let jealousy or envy derail growth. Art can be quick or it also can require time . Don’t rush it
#3 You should be your biggest believer. You have to be your own biggest fan , sometimes I hate the way that sounds or comes off but it really is key to success. If you don’t love your songs then who else will?
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Self Care. When I’m burnt out I go to the basics. Favorite foods and drinks along with some kush in a raw cone. A cold glass of Jacks Daniels and Cola with my favorite music bumping . Movies and games with my friends and family . Just stop and take a moment to appreciate life and how lucky we are. I get faded beyond oblivion and come back feeling like a new man .
