Meet Louis Joseph

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Louis Joseph. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Louis, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

The foundation of my self-confidence and self-esteem was laid during my childhood, thanks to my father, Louis Joseph Sr. He would constantly remind me, with unwavering passion and energy that I could be anything, achieve anything, and overcome any challenge. His words weren’t just statements—they were a force, delivered with such conviction that it was impossible not to internalize them. He embraced challenges with enthusiasm, almost as if they were a savory meal he couldn’t wait to devour. Watching his confidence and fearless approach to obstacles sparked my own journey toward building self-belief and self-esteem.

That journey began in my youth and continues to this day. Developing self-confidence and self-esteem is an ongoing process for me anchored by a set of guiding principles and a growth-oriented mindset. I believe in continuous preparation and the pursuit of growth personally, professionally and spiritually . I make it a point to keep the promises I make to myself, push beyond my comfort zone, stay open to new ideas, and take calculated risks. While these principles are simple in concept, consistently practicing them takes effort. However, the operative word is “practice”—the more I practice, the stronger my confidence grows.

One phrase I live by that keeps me focused is: “If it feels uncomfortable, that’s where you should be. If it seems impossible, that’s the goal you should set. If it looks difficult, that’s the path you should take.” This mindset pushes me to embrace challenges and step into growth opportunities, even when they feel daunting.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Originally I was born in Haiti and grew up in Boston, Massachusetts since the age of eight and developed a passion for technology and the arts at the John D. O’Bryant High School of Mathematics and Science when I attended from 7th-12th grade. While at the O’Bryant aside from sports and academia, I concurrently completed a six-year musical training at the New England Conservatory School of music. I played various wind instruments such as the oboe and the saxophone which by the way is my favorite instrument. I was into sketching and numerous creative activities.

Upon graduating from the O’Bryant, I went on to study at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, where I received a bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Engineering. At UMass-Amherst, I also served as president of the National Society of Black Engineers, became a member of the divine nine greek organization, Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, an organization dedicated to building leaders and serving community and also pursued various entrepreneurship ventures. While in college, I continued to perform as a saxophonist in various student shows. However, it was the opportunity to write, perform and stage a student play with college friends that sparked my love for acting. From that experience of bringing a character to life, I knew that my career as a creator in the visual arts was eminent. However, after graduation I put my creative passions to the side and pursued a corporate professional career in Engineering & Systems Design Architect as well as furthering my education in the world of technology. Gaining innovative skills and experience led me on a path to exploring entrepreneurial opportunities. Although I found some success in these work avenues for many years, my fire to return to the arts never burned out and in 2018 I decided to pursue my acting career professionally.

Pursuing my acting career ignited a deep passion for storytelling, screenwriting and the entire filmmaking process. This journey ultimately led me to earn my graduate degree in Digital Filmmaking and Video Production at F.I.R.S.T. Institute in Florida. However, I noticed many challenges independent filmmakers and creators faced that were just not being met and wanted to create a new way for independent filmmakers & creators to thrive. I decided to combine my passion in technology and the performing arts and founded iBoss Entertainment with a vision to empower a new independent filmmaker and creator economy and expand digital storytelling worldwide.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

There are many very important qualities and skills I continually work on to develop that have helped me tremendously in my journey and by no means have I perfected them lol. However, I’ve committed to continually grow and make progress in those areas. If I were to narrow to a few that have impacted my journey below would be my top 3 areas:

#1 – Prioritize your mental and physical health – My health, both mental and physical, is the foundation of everything I do. I’m very passionate about health, wellness and spiritual growth. Without energy and the right mindset, it’s incredibly challenging to excel in any area of your life. My advice is to resist getting lost in the grind of your passion and make your well-being a priority. Being consistent in doing this is a skill in itself. Practices like exercise, meditation, mindfulness and spiritual growth aren’t just optional for me, they are essential. By taking care of my health and wellness, I’ve seen a significant positive impact in all areas of my life. It’s the cornerstone of my ability to create, perform, and succeed.

#2 – Be resourceful, creative and innovative – Learn to make progress with the resources you have instead of focusing on what you lack. Like many, I’ve fallen into this trap at times and my experience is it never results in a positive outcome or infuses any progress. Resourcefulness is a game changer and creativity often emerges when we find solutions to constraints. Don’t shy away from exploring ideas that may seem unconventional or “crazy.” Innovation often requires breaking from the status quo, experimenting and learning from the outcomes, whether they’re successes or lessons. The key is to stay curious, take calculated risks, and adapt as you go.

#3 – Practice discipline, mental toughness and focus energy management – Discipline and mental toughness go hand in hand. I use the word “practice” intentionally because these qualities aren’t about perfection—they’re about consistent progress. Mental toughness conditions you to rise above distractions, temptations, and setbacks. It fuels your ability to stick with your commitments even when the journey gets tough.

Discipline, on the other hand, is a skill that anyone can develop—it’s not an inherent trait. Many people say, “I’m not disciplined,” but that’s a choice, not a fixed reality. Discipline is built by forming habits, sticking to them, and, most importantly, bouncing back when you falter. Falling out of discipline doesn’t mean you’re not disciplined; it’s an opportunity to refocus and recommit.

Last but not least, making time to focus and doing deep work on what matters has been one of the most important part of my journey and will continue to be. It’s very difficult to do and I’m still working on it. There are so many distractions and if you don’t have dedicated time to focus on your work, it gets very difficult to make any progress or fully explore and expand your creative flow.

The synergy between mental toughness, discipline, and focus management I find creates a powerful foundation for succeeding at anything. Mental toughness strengthens your discipline, discipline fuels your consistency and focus management shapes the environment needed to sustain progress. Together, these skills and abilities work in harmony, keeps me grounded, navigate challenges, gain or maintain momentum and achieve meaningful progress over time.
