Meet Lu Silva

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lu Silva a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Lu, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
The foundation of my work ethic comes from my family. My main role models within my family are hard workers. I come from leaders from both sides of my family. My father made a point of showing the way. I’ll never forget the summer he had me do a agua fresca stand outside our restaurant. My dad set me up with every thing I needed. I had to show up and do the work. There was no one with me while my little business was open.It wasn’t easy and demanded a lot more than I expected.
Nothing has ever come easy to me. In school I had to work twice as hard as most to do well. I always told myself – the least you can do is be there. I always wanted the best grades possible. To me – the better the grades the more options for the future.
After school, every job that I have had demanded good work ethic. You may get by with average or below average work ethic. However to make more money and get promoted – you have to have a good work ethic.
I have seen success in my passion project- @foodie_munster on Instagram, Tik Tok and beyond. I attribute my success to my work ethic. I put in the work and you can depend on me.
Not every job you do will be glamorous or fun. Work is work. However, pride in a job well done is worth it. You never know how it may pay off on down the road. Two parting pieces of wisdom:
1.The only thing worst than a horrible job is no job at all.
2.Nothing worth having is easy or free.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I have a day job that pays the bills. You won’t hear me bring it up much. I still show up and work hard to be a top performer. What I do is advocate and promote small businesses with my Instagram, Tik Tok and other platforms. I love to feature the food and tell the story about the people behind it.
I am not just an average Joe with an opinion. I have expertise, experience and education to share. I have a thirst for knowledge too.
I may be listed as an influencer, food critic, judge or the media but don’t get it twisted nonetheless.
I tell stories. I feature culture through food and dinning. I am all about making connections:
•Between audience & my content
•Community and communities beyond
•Chefs, restaurateurs, taqueros, foodies and everyone else in the hospitality industry.
•History, Culture and all the above.
I don’t ever expect to convert you to my way of thinking. Just to incite. There are many in hospitality that don’t get the recognition nor the exposure they deserve. There are businesses that struggle or close needlessly. I want to do my part to change that.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, persistence and optimism are key. It is so easy to quit early or to never try at all. My advice is to give it a shot and stick to it.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am always looking for the next food business to partner with. I love meeting other folks that do what I do to collaborate. I love engagement. Follow me, comment on my posts and talk to me via Instagram DM or email me.
