Meet Lua De Morais

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lua De Morais . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Lua , appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

My stepfather. He was the most resilient person I know…so is my mother. They are both a sample of what it means to toughen up in the difficult times and NEVER give up.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am mainly a singer & songwriter, yet, I’ve written a poetry book, a couple of plays, I produce a kids show on YouTube, among other things I do for a living, (Voice Over, Translations, etc).

I’m preparing at the moment the launch of a new album (EP) called BIG BLUE SKY, that was produced last year & has 7 of my latest / favorite songs, & where I also had the honor to have my 23 & 21 year old daughter & son sing with me. Together we have a kids show on YouTube called PLAYBUG that we’ve been working on since 2022 and where we teach languages to preschoolers through songs we create and bed time stories. My daughter is the music producer & my son one of the main Voice Over characters. I play “Mel”, who teaches her “imaginary friends” (puppets), English, Spanish & Portuguese, & honestly, I have a blast! I’ve learned so much ever since I decided to do this in spite of not feeling like I had the means to do it, little by little & with every episode, things have come together & I’ve met amazing people & also had so much collaboration from other creators here in LA! I’m really so grateful for everything that has happened in the behalf of this project, that I can’t see myself doing anything else. I wish that all the children in the world, especially the ones that have less possibility for travel and seeing other countries, could feel that they have the same opportunities when in comes to learning a second or third language and a greater cultural exchange. I was lucky as a child to be immersed in different cultures and now I just want to give back to what was given to me.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Probably the fact that I started singing at such an early age. I always loved singing, and I’m glad I did, since it’s what pays my bills today! My voice is definitely one of the things I am more grateful for! I also take care of it, take singing lessons when I can, I don’t smoke (drink very little), I sleep 8 hours daily (sacred), and try not no drink anything too cold or too hot…

You may be gifted in an area or two, yet, without hard work, discipline & dedication, it won’t make much of a difference, since we are in a planet full of talented & gifted people!

I must say my stubbornness & work ethics is something I am proud of! I know that I may get exhausted, or discouraged, I may want to give up when I don’t see results, yet, giving up has never crossed my mind, and I don’t mind dying in the intent of getting to where I want to be! That might be my greatest quality! Sometimes I don’t sleep, but it’s ok, because I know I am creating something that someday will mean a lot to future generations…even if I don’t get to see or enjoy it! I have a mission, I have a passion & a goal, & no one can take that from me.

Having learned three languages at the same time as a little girl, & being fluent in all three makes me feel very blessed! I know how lucky I am & how privileged to do what I love and have been able to go to acting school and learn so many things that I love and that help me create today. Yet, again, nothing was given to me, I had to fight for every little thing, and that makes it even more pleasurable & special.

Having had kids at a young age as well & sharing different projects with them, gives me so much in every way, adding depth & reason to my life. Everything makes more sense, is more urgent & more truthful. I can look at myself in the mirror and say without a shadow of a doubt: I AM NOT ALONE.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

I write. I journal. I empty my mind in a piece of paper, let it all out, my worries, my fears, whatever I’m going through that may be overwhelming me…then, when I feel I got it all out, I wait. I stay quiet, I close my eyes, I stay still, I listen…then I write whatever I’m thinking about, whatever comes to my mind, I don’t question, I just write, I trust and I write…then I read…I usually find my answers, my comfort, my voice. Some how, I find my peace.

The answers are within, they say…I think it’s true. We do have all the answers, we just don’t listen, we are too busy, too lazy, too tired, too loud.
