Meet Luca Romagnoli

We were lucky to catch up with Luca Romagnoli recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Luca, thank you so much for agreeing to open up about a sensitive and personal topic like being fired or laid-off. Unfortunately, there has been a rise in layoffs recently and so your insight and experience with overcoming being let go is relevant to so many in the community.

Being laid off from Microsoft after five years was initially disheartening, but I used it as a catalyst for starting my own business. It was the only company I had ever worked for, and it set a high bar for what to expect from the corporate world. I reflected on the experience however, and realized that my sense of comfort also came with a sense of unfulfillment. I was eager to build my own company, and felt a much higher ceiling was present with my growth. From there stemmed my desire to start Crystal Custom Design. I leveraged my connections I made throughout my time there, and grew steadily since out inception.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

What excites me most is the creative process—bringing ideas to life through visual storytelling and helping businesses stand out with impactful designs. We’re constantly innovating to offer new services and expand our reach, ensuring our clients receive cutting-edge solutions that elevate their brand presence. Currently, we’re gearing up for several company partnerships and expanding our service offerings to meet growing demand in the market.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Adaptability was a big one. Learning on the fly and pivoting is crucial when running a business, as you have to tread water before you can swim. Reliance is also big. Doing things without seeing short term results can be difficult, but rewarding in the end. Consistently learning was also very important. It is more important to invest in yourself, than to invest in your business.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

When feeling overwhelmed, it is often best to take a step back from the tasks at hand and look at the bigger picture. It can be easy to get hung up on a singular task, or feel overwhelmed by a busy week. However, visualizing the end goal always helps put the temporary pain into perspective, and gives you a taste of the growth there is to come.
