We were lucky to catch up with Lucas Roelen recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lucas, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
My confidence and esteem has mostly stemmed from my inherent pursuit to create good work. I truly believe in myself to push projects and ideas forward, especially if they are aimed at aiding and entertaining the general public. By pushing for such ideals, I have confidence and a high level of esteem because that is what it takes to make true change!
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
So the biggest project and endeavor I have been involved with is the launch of a comedy production company and channel called, Unrelatable. The mission of Unrelatable is to bring high production value and creative comedy to social media outlets through the form of both long form content( Youtube videos) and short form content ( Tiktok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts) content. The idea to start such a company came from the inherent need and lack of long form skit comedy on platforms like YouTube. These channels were incredibly common through the late 2000s and 2010s, but have not seen any relevance in the 2020s. We aim to fill this need in the market place and bring incredible content and terrific comedy to people all over the world. By having a variety of outlets for our content as well as diverse subsections of content, there truly is something for everyone to enjoy at Unrelatable. I believe that the comedy is absolutely essential to the world, and we truly just need an outlet to laugh. We hope to bring this outlet to everyone!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
There are so many qualities that I think go into the journey that I have been on. However, the most important has been ambition, networking, and faith in a higher power. To do anything in this world and being a self starter, you need to have ambition. Ambitious goals and ambitious dreams. This is where the root of desire comes from. Additionally, networking is crucial to creating business partners that can truly help you get to where you need to go that you did not have access to before. I have made it a mission to talk to anybody and everybody that I can to create terrific relationships that can both be lifelong friendships and potential business partners. You hear the word networking a lot but it really is that crucial. Lastly, having a faith in a higher power has really changed how I see the world. I haven’t always been religious, and won’t consider myself religious that much still. Nonetheless, having a faith in a higher power gives me a sense of direction and purpose to move forward.
Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
The most essential book that has changed my life is Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. This book was given to me by mother when I was sixteen and it changed my life forever. It teaches how to apply ones self to work and life to create tremendous results and view the world as an opportunity. Nothing stood out to me more than the principle of Definiteness of Purpose. This is essential creating the true purpose in what you want to create for your life, it is essentially a mission statement for your life’s work. I recommend this book to anyone no matter the circumstances.
