Meet Lucia Dostal

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lucia Dostal. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lucia below.

Hi Lucia, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?

Self care plays a big role in my life as a songwriter and artist and often helps to channel my creativity. Yoga and exercise is super important for me as a human and as a vocalist. I often feel like when my mind is running wild or my voice feels rough, even a small work out helps so so much.
I am a firm believer in the power of gratitude and integrating it into my daily life has absolutely changed the way I view the world. I was introduced to gratitude journaling by one of my closest college friends. A few of us would text each night 3 things that we were grateful for. Even just 3 small things a night I began to feel the rewiring in my brain. Where stress and anxiety usually consumed me, gratitude filled its place.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

Absolutely! This summer I finished up my studies in Boston at Berklee College of Music and made the move across the country to Los Angeles. Living here has been such a wild and lovely experience! I’ve been spending most of my time in songwriting sessions with fellow songwriters and producers as well as releasing music of my own! My most recent acoustic single “I Want My Secrets Back” was just released on November 7th and I could not be more thrilled to share it with you! This song is comes from very personal place and might just be my favorite original so far. 🙂 Feel free to check it out using the link below!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I think the three most important skills I have carried with me are my hustle, resilience, and optimism. If there is one thing I have learned about the creative industry is that the ones who don’t “make it” are the ones who stopped trying. I mean, I got rejected from my highschool a cappella group for 4 years in a row and look at what I get to do now! ☾𖤓

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

The most impactful thing my parents taught me wasn’t what to think, but how to feel and how to love. That might sound obvious, but I am so grateful for the emotional awareness that I have. I can always tell when someone needs a hug or who’s lying when we play a game of BS and I have become a great songwriter because of it.
