We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lucrezia Mapelli. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lucrezia below.
Lucrezia, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
My father, no doubt. From a young age, he instilled in me the idea that no matter what challenges I faced, I had to keep pushing forward and continually improve.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a professional makeup artist with 10 years of experience and 5 years as an educator. My passion lies in making people feel confident and empowered through makeup, whether it’s a bride on her big day, a client for a photoshoot, or someone attending one of my makeup workshops. I’m focused on offering more educational services because I believe makeup is not just about products, but about technique and understanding your unique features. That’s why I also launched my LMH Beauty Studio to provide outstanding education and LMH Pro Lashes—high-quality lashes designed for makeup artists to enhance their work, now available through my TikTok shop.
What excites me the most about what I do is the power of transformation, but more than that, the real beauty of helping people see themselves in a new light. I’m currently hosting makeup workshops that highlight color theory and celebrate different skin tones, including an upcoming session on mastering makeup for mature skin.
My brand is built around authenticity, which is why I emphasize natural beauty in my work—no over-editing or filters. It’s important to show people that makeup can enhance your features without taking away from who you are. Right now, I’m expanding my studio to include aesthetic services, collaborating with two different businesses to offer a more inclusive beauty experience.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
What has made me a successful and well-rounded makeup artist is my constant willingness to learn from others and immerse myself in new experiences. Early in my career, I had the incredible opportunity to assist a well-known makeup artist in Milan. This experience allowed me to challenge myself in unique environments and pushed me to grow both creatively and professionally. Working alongside a seasoned artist exposed me to techniques and perspectives I would have never encountered on my own.
I believe three key qualities that have shaped my journey are resilience, curiosity, and a deep hunger to learn. Resilience has helped me overcome obstacles and setbacks in an industry that is often unpredictable. Curiosity has driven me to explore new styles, techniques, and ideas, ensuring that I never settle into a comfort zone. And my desire to keep learning has kept me evolving over the years, helping me stay current in a fast-paced and ever-changing field.
To newer makeup artists, my biggest piece of advice is to seek out a mentor. Learning directly from someone with real-world experience offers invaluable insights you won’t find through social media or tutorials. While platforms like Instagram and TikTok can be great for inspiration, nothing beats hands-on guidance and mentorship from a professional who has navigated the ups and downs of the industry. So, take the time to build those connections and be open to learning from others—it’s the best investment you can make in your career.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My ideal client is someone who values collaboration and is open to the creative process. They don’t necessarily have to know exactly what they want, but they should be excited about experimenting and trust me to guide them through the transformation. I love working with clients who appreciate both the artistry of makeup and the uniqueness of their own features, knowing that makeup can enhance their individuality rather than cover it up.
A key characteristic I look for is open-mindedness. Whether it’s a bride, a photoshoot client, or someone attending one of my workshops, my best experiences have always been with those who are willing to communicate their vision but are also flexible and trusting in the process. Another important trait is a respect for time and professionalism. I pride myself on being punctual and prepared, and it’s a smoother experience when clients value that same level of professionalism.
Overall, my ideal client embraces the idea that makeup is not about perfection but about self-expression. They are confident in their own skin and understand that makeup is an extension of who they are. Working with someone who values authenticity, respects the process, and enjoys creativity makes for an ideal collaboration.
