We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Luis Corona a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Luis, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
I continue studying how to paint with lights, I continue looking for inspiration in all ancient culture, specifically in Greek and Roman culture, how all these works of art are capable of transmitting emotion, feeling, and purity! My idea of photography is to be able to transmit beyond an image, I want to create my own language and inspire through all my images.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
As a professional dancer turned artist photographer, I am deeply passionate about capturing emotions and telling stories through my art.
My journey began in the world of dance, where I learned to express myself through movement and emotion. This background has heavily influenced my approach to photography. I believe that every image should evoke a feeling, a memory, or a story.
What excites me the most about my work is the ability to connect with people on an emotional level. Whether I’m capturing a fleeting moment in a dance performance or freezing a powerful emotion in a photograph, I strive to create images that resonate with the viewer.
I’m constantly seeking new ways to push the boundaries of my art. Whether it’s through experimenting with new techniques, collaborating with other artists, or exploring different subject matters, I’m always looking for ways to grow and evolve as an artist.
In terms of new developments, I’m excited to announce that I’ll be launching a series of photography workshops later this year. These workshops will provide aspiring photographers with the opportunity to learn from my experience and develop their own unique style.
Overall, my goal is to create art that not only looks beautiful but also touches the soul. I hope that my work can inspire others to see the world in a new light and connect with their own emotions in a deeper way.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back on my journey, there are three qualities that I believe were most impactful:
Passion: Passion is what initially drew me to both dance and photography, and it has been the driving force behind my success. When you’re passionate about what you do, it’s easier to stay motivated, push through challenges, and continuously improve.
Perseverance: Both dance and photography are incredibly competitive fields, and success doesn’t come overnight. It’s important to have the perseverance to keep pushing forward, even when faced with rejection or setbacks.
Creativity: In both dance and photography, creativity is key. Whether it’s coming up with new choreography or finding unique ways to frame a shot, creativity allows you to stand out and make a name for yourself in your field.
For those who are early in their journey, my advice would be to focus on developing these qualities:
Find your passion: Take the time to explore different interests and find what truly excites you. Once you’ve found your passion, pursue it wholeheartedly.
Don’t be afraid to fail: Failure is a natural part of the learning process. Instead of letting it discourage you, use it as an opportunity to learn and grow.
Experiment and think outside the box: Don’t be afraid to take risks and try new things. Creativity thrives when you’re willing to step outside your comfort zone and push the boundaries of what’s possible.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Throughout my journey, I’ve been fortunate to have the support of many people who have helped me overcome challenges and develop the skills I needed to be successful. However, if I had to single out one person, it would be My Old Brother Orlando
Orlando has been an invaluable mentor to me, providing guidance, support, and encouragement every step of the way. Orlando has not only helped me develop my technical skills but has also taught me important lessons about perseverance, resilience, and the importance of believing in myself.
I am incredibly grateful for with Orlando to guidance and support, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without my Brother
