Meet Luis Felipe Torres Navarrete

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Luis Felipe Torres Navarrete a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Luis Felipe, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

My creativity is deeply rooted in the resilience and resourcefulness I witnessed in my family growing up. Coming from a middle-class South American background, there were times when money was tight, but watching my parents problem-solve and adapt taught me to be inventive, even when resources were limited. This perspective has shaped my approach to life and business.

My career as a Navy executive officer and background as an engineer in information technology gave me a structured, strategic mindset that’s balanced with a strong capacity for problem-solving. Beyond that, my life experiences have been incredibly diverse. I’ve had the fortune of living with different families, attending various schools, and experiencing a range of cultures and perspectives. Each chapter ignited my curiosity and gave me the freedom to create my own reality. This journey, in turn, fuels the innovation I bring to OnePlus Strength and Conditioning, where I strive to empower others to push boundaries and see new possibilities.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

At OnePlus Strength and Conditioning, our journey began with a mission: to educate, guide, and motivate people to reach their full potential using a unique, scientifically based training system. We offer a carefully crafted program rooted in physiological principles, which not only enhances fitness and athletic performance but also prioritizes injury prevention and holistic development. Our members don’t just train—they gain lifelong skills that empower them inside and outside the gym.

Our vision is to become San Antonio’s premier strength and conditioning gym. We achieve this by maintaining a high standard of professionalism, constantly evolving with the latest training principles, and fostering connections that go beyond the gym floor. Our coaches bring excellence to each session, educating and supporting our members with a commitment to detail, positive reinforcement, and a bond that extends beyond a workout.

At OnePlus, we see training as a journey. Our philosophy emphasizes the complete athlete—training that nurtures physical and neural adaptations while safeguarding against injury. In an industry where ‘working out’ is often mistaken for true training, we set ourselves apart by defining and applying real training principles. We use structured year-round periodization and diverse methodologies like Olympic lifting, gymnastics, and sports-specific movements to develop essential skills like strength, agility, and endurance. This foundation gives our members more than just peak performance moments; it equips them with the tools for consistent, lifelong improvement.

Our approach also deeply values mindset and education. We provide an environment where coaches and members continuously learn and grow together, because knowledge is power. The more our members understand their health, the more sustainable their results will be. Our members become ambassadors of our philosophy, extending what they learn into their communities. This connection is what drives us to evolve continually, both as individuals and as a community.

Our goals are clear: to introduce strength and conditioning principles to our members and their families, help them achieve realistic goals, and provide a scalable, safe, and welcoming environment for athletes of all abilities. OnePlus is a place where people want to be, where they bring their friends, families, and coworkers. We’re not just building strength; we’re building a community founded on support, learning, and excellence that our members carry with them, making an impact far beyond our walls

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been resilience, adaptability, and patience—alongside a deep commitment to continuous learning.

Resilience was ingrained in me from an early age, growing up in a South American family where resources were sometimes limited. Watching my parents persevere through challenges taught me the value of grit, a quality that has carried me through my diverse career and my journey to build OnePlus Strength and Conditioning. For those just starting, I’d say resilience grows every time you step outside your comfort zone—embrace adversity, because it’s where true growth begins.

Adaptability has also been essential. From working as an engineer to my time as a Navy officer and then as a coach, I’ve learned the importance of staying open to change. My personal athletic career, too, has taken me through multiple sports, many of which I started from scratch. Starting over has taught me to focus on process over immediate results. To cultivate adaptability, expose yourself to new experiences and perspectives, which equip you to approach any challenge with creativity and confidence.

Patience and dedication to the journey itself have been equally transformative. Athletics taught me the art of working hard without expecting instant rewards, and I’ve applied this same principle to OnePlus. Progress is often invisible in the moment, but staying present, focused, and working hard on the task at hand lays a solid foundation for future success. For anyone beginning their journey, I’d recommend learning to trust the process. When you value the journey over the destination, every day becomes a rewarding part of your growth.

Finally, continuous learning has been a pillar of my journey. The fitness industry evolves constantly, and I am committed to learning and applying the latest research to serve our members best. Whether it’s through courses, reading, or mentorship, continuous education is the foundation of confidence and expertise in any field. My advice? Make learning a habit—it’s the one investment that never stops paying off.

Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?

Our ideal client at OnePlus Strength and Conditioning is someone who values quality over quantity and understands that true fitness is about building a sustainable, high-quality foundation. They don’t need to come with years of experience or be at their peak already; instead, they should have a desire to pursue their personal best and a deep respect for the journey it takes to get there.

We look for clients who are willing to invest in their growth—physically, mentally, and emotionally. They understand that health and fitness are the most important forms of wealth, treasures that can’t be bought but must be earned through consistent effort, dedication, and self-care.

Our best clients show up ready to learn, respect the process, and embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. They also bring an energy that values community, appreciating that everyone’s journey is interconnected. At OnePlus, we’re about building a culture where individuals celebrate each other’s wins, recognizing that the progress of one fuels the progress of all.

Ultimately, our ideal client is someone who strives to be at their pinnacle of life, recognizing that fitness is a lifelong commitment. With patience and a positive mindset, they take each step knowing it’s not just about achieving short-term goals, but about creating a healthier, stronger version of themselves for life. That’s the kind of dedication that makes the OnePlus community special.
