Meet Luke Asper

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Luke Asper a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Luke, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

Overcoming imposter syndrome has been an important part of my journey. At first, I often felt like I didn’t belong or that my achievements were just luck. Realizing that many people feel this way helped me a lot.

I built a strong support network of mentors and friends who gave me helpful feedback and encouragement. Thinking about my accomplishments and the positive impact of my work helped me see my real abilities.

I also made a point to always keep learning and teaching myself more about videography. Improving my skills not only made me better at my job but also boosted my confidence.

Being a twin has also helped. Growing up with someone just like me taught me how to be myself while also having someone similar around. This helped me develop a strong sense of who I am, which was important in overcoming imposter syndrome.

By facing challenges and seeing them as chances to grow, and by always learning, I gradually became more confident. This change in thinking helped me appreciate my unique contributions and feel more secure in my role.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m Luke Asper, the owner of Asper Studios, a videography and photography company dedicated to crafting visual stories that connect and inspire. At Asper Studios, we specialize in high-quality video production and photography services, with a particular focus on the automotive industry, corporate videos, and music videos.

Our work with prestigious automotive brands such as Toyota USA and McLaren North America exemplifies our commitment to excellence. We’ve had the privilege of creating compelling video content showcasing these iconic brands’ innovation, design, and performance. Our expertise in capturing the essence of high-end vehicles allows us to produce visually stunning and emotionally engaging videos that resonate with car enthusiasts and potential buyers alike.

In addition to automotive videos, we excel in producing corporate videos that effectively communicate our clients’ messages. Whether it’s a promotional video, a training series, or a company profile, we ensure that each project is tailored to meet our clients’ unique needs, helping them engage their audience and achieve their business objectives.

We also have a strong passion for music videos, and our recent work with the local band Amethyst Michelle is a testament to that. We’ve produced all of their music videos, which are available on YouTube, and we’re excited to announce that we will be going on tour with them in June 2024. This tour is a fantastic opportunity to showcase our work and support incredible local talent.

One of the unique aspects of Asper Studios is our commitment to continuous learning and innovation. We are always exploring new techniques and technologies to enhance our storytelling capabilities. This dedication to growth ensures that we consistently deliver top-notch content that exceeds our clients’ expectations.

We’re also launching a new series of behind-the-scenes content on YouTube, aimed at videographers interested in production and editing techniques. Additionally, we have expanded our services to include roles like lighting, gaffer, and 1st assistant camera (1AC), providing comprehensive support for a variety of production needs.
Overall, our goal is to help our clients visualize their preferred future and achieve their goals through strategic and creative video solutions. We’re passionate about what we do and are always looking for new ways to make an impact with our work.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back, three things were most important in my journey: never giving up, always learning, and effective communication.

1. Never Giving Up:
Resilience, or never giving up, was crucial. Running a business has lots of ups and downs, but staying focused and adapting to change helped me succeed. My advice for those starting out is to see failures as learning opportunities. Each setback can make you stronger and smarter. Remember, you’re not alone. Build a support network of mentors, peers, and friends who can encourage you and help you stay on track.

2. Always Learning:
Always learning new things has been key. Keeping up with the latest techniques, technologies, and trends in videography and photography keeps my work fresh. For those just starting, I recommend dedicating time to learning and improving your skills. You can find a lot of useful information for free on YouTube or by asking people online. Never stop exploring new ideas and trying different styles and tools.

3. Effective Communication:
Effective communication has made a big difference. Understanding what clients need and sharing ideas clearly helps everyone work together smoothly. For those early in their careers, developing strong communication skills is essential. Practice listening carefully, be open to feedback, and work on explaining your vision and ideas clearly and confidently.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I’m definitely looking to partner and collaborate with others. Specifically, I’m interested in working with marketing consultants who help their clients update their marketing strategies but don’t have the means to execute those plans themselves. By partnering with Asper Studios, we can bring their strategies to life through high-quality video production and photography.

I’m also looking to connect with younger videographers who are eager to learn and grow in this field. If you’re passionate about videography and want to gain hands-on experience, I’d love to hear from you.

If you’re a marketing consultant seeking execution support or a budding videographer looking for mentorship, feel free to reach out. You can connect with me through our website or my personal social media channel @luke_asper. Let’s collaborate and create something amazing together!
