Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Luke Huxley. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Luke, thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.
My generosity comes from a man who spent his life giving the stars to others.
Greg Quicke: (known to many as Space Gandalf) was a legendary astronomer, tour guide, and community educator in Broome, Western Australia. He didn’t just teach astronomy. He shared with passion, patience, and deep generosity.
Greg welcomed me into his orbit when I was still figuring out my own path. Despite being busy running one of the most iconic stargazing tours in the world, he always made time for me answering my endless questions, letting me shadow his tours, and teaching me how to translate science into story. But it wasn’t just me. Greg believed astronomy belonged to everyone. He offered free youth programs in community schools across the Kimberley. He ran sliding-scale and pay-what-you-can nights for locals who couldn’t afford a ticket. He gave his knowledge freely, and made people feel like the cosmos was theirs to explore.
When Greg passed away, hundreds gathered on Cable Beach to honor him with a surfer’s paddle-out a powerful circle of love, grief, and gratitude. His impact on the community was immeasurable. He didn’t just help people see the stars he helped them see themselves in the universe.
Today, I run AstroTours.org, offering stargazing tours in Boulder and Denver, Colorado. Every night under the stars, I carry Greg’s lessons with me. We offer educational astronomy experiences, host free programs for schools and non-profits, and provide sliding scale pricing to keep our tours accessible. These practices aren’t just good business they’re a reflection of Greg’s legacy.
Greg showed me that generosity isn’t just a trait. It’s a practice one that can ripple outward and light up lives, just like starlight crossing the void. My hope is to continue that ripple through every tour we offer.
Because of Greg, we don’t just point telescopes at the sky. At AstroTours.org, we point people toward connection with the cosmos, with each other, and with the wonder that comes from being part of something bigger.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
AstroTours.org, brings the universe down to Earth.
We offer guided stargazing tours in Boulder, Denver, Castle Rock, and beyond, using professional-grade telescopes, lasers, and binoculars to give guests a truly hands-on look at the cosmos. Seeing people light up seeing Saturn’s rings for the first time or a family tracing constellations together is my favorite part of what i do. Every tour is designed to be immersive, accessible, and inspiring.
What makes AstroTours.org unique is the science through storytelling. We blend astronomy with mythology, history, and humor to create an experience that’s educational and deeply human. And we’re committed to making astronomy accessible for all: we partner with schools, nonprofits, and community groups to offer free youth programs, discounted rates, and sliding scale pricing for those who need it. That commitment was inspired by my mentor, Greg Quicke (Space Gandalf), who taught me that the stars belong to everyone.
What’s exciting right now is the growth. We’ve recently expanded our team of astronomers, launched new tour locations in Castle Rock and Breckenridge, and we’re starting to pop up at festivals, weddings, and corporate events around Colorado. We’re also piloting special indoor astronomy experiences, daytime solar viewings, and interactive youth programs — all with the same goal: to connect people with the cosmos in a way that’s memorable, meaningful, and fun.
We’re currently booking private events and public tours year-round. You can learn more, reserve your spot, or explore our blog at AstroTours.org. Whether you’re a lifelong astronomy nerd or just curious about the night sky, we’d love to have you join us under the stars.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been: curiosity, adaptability, and generosity — all of which were shaped deeply by my mentor, Space Gandalf (Greg Quicke), and the path that led me to create AstroTours.org.
Curiosity
Curiosity has been my compass since childhood; from pointing at the full moon and yelling “MOOOON!” as a toddler, to studying quasars in college, to diving into astronomy outreach with telescopes in the Australian outback. Curiosity opens doors. It keeps you learning, keeps you questioning, and fuels your ability to connect seemingly distant dots, whether that’s science and storytelling, or business and education.
Advice: Stay endlessly curious, even when you feel like you “should” already know something. Follow the questions that keep you up at night, they’ll lead you somewhere meaningful.
Adaptability
Nothing about starting AstroTours.org was handed to me. When I came back to Colorado after working for Greg in Australia, I realized no one was doing astronomy tours the way we had been, so I had to build it from scratch. That meant learning business logistics, marketing, public speaking, tech troubleshooting, and even weather forecasting. It also meant learning how to change, to evolve offerings, adjust for weather, and meet guests where they are.
Advice: Get comfortable not having all the answers. Say yes to challenges, and treat every setback as an experiment. Adaptability is what turns ideas into impact.
Generosity
Greg showed me that knowledge is most powerful when it’s shared. He gave his time freely, to me as a student, and to his community through school programs and sliding-scale tours. That mindset shaped how I run AstroTours.org. We offer free youth programs, reduced rates for those in need, and storytelling that invites everyone in.
Advice: Don’t guard your knowledge, share it. Generosity builds trust, creates community, and often comes back in ways you can’t predict.
If you’re just starting your journey, don’t worry about having it all figured out. Focus on these three things, and the rest will start to align. Let curiosity guide you, stay adaptable in the face of uncertainty, and lead with generosity, both to others and to yourself.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was nurture my curiosity. especially when it came to the natural world and the night sky.
One of my dad’s favorite stories from my childhood still gets told at family gatherings. I was just a toddler when he took me outside on a full moon night. I pointed up, eyes wide, and said, “Ball!” He laughed and gently corrected me: “That’s a special kind of ball. we call it the Moon.” Apparently, I stood there for a second, taking it in, and then shouted, “MOOOOON!”
That moment became a kind of origin story for me. From then on, my parents supported my fascination with space, science, and exploration. They got me books, encouraged me to build things, and let me stay up late to stargaze. Later, when my grandfather gave me my first telescope, they helped me learn to use it. even when that meant being outside in the cold, waiting for clouds to clear.
That early encouragement laid the foundation for everything I’ve built with AstroTours.org. It taught me that curiosity is worth following, and that the best learning often starts with wonder. Now, I get to pass that spark on to others. helping guests see the Moon, planets, and stars for the first time, just like I did all those years ago.
