Meet Luke Netti

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Luke Netti a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Luke, thank you for joining us today and sharing your experiences and acquired wisdom with us. Burnout is a huge topic these days and so we’d love to kick things off by discussing your thoughts on overcoming or avoiding burnout

Most people experience burnout at a point when it feels too late. At a moment where the emotions of burnout start to take control and make it feel much harder to get out of.

I’ve learned that burnout is not the amount of work that feels overwhelming, but the kind of work. Burnout is a signal to re-evaluate what I’m doing and why. When I started to view burnout in this light, it became an indicator for me. As I continually get closer to doing work that inspires me, I don’t experience burnout as often or as badly.

Combining this with learning to dial back and get rest, I can see more clearly what’s causing my burnout.

My advice to people experiencing burnout—slow down and re-evaluate. Take inventory of why you do what you do and start to get clarity. This will alleviate most of the burnout.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I became a web designer because I wanted to help small businesses. Today, your online presence means everything. It’s how your ideal customer forms their first impression about you.

Your website needs to convey this message in seconds. As Donald Miller says, “The best brands don’t win, the ones communicated most effectively do.”

I kept seeing great businesses fail. Not because they didn’t have the best product or service, but they couldn’t stand out online.

This is why I’m so passionate about helping brands stand out with custom design and clear messaging.

I believe that the powerful combination of a custom designed website and a clear message can transform your business. Helping more businesses grow online using their website and online presence.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

1. Learn more business skills

As a creative, it’s easy to focus in on your craft and perfect it. But the longer you ignore the business side of things, it will get worse. Focusing on things like sales, marketing, and lead generation will make you way more successful. It will also help you stay in the game the longest.

2. Be human

AI is becoming more popular. Be genuine in the conversations you have. If you’re out there trying to help people solve a problem, you will make it. At the end of the day, business is 1-1.

3. Connect and network with others

There is so much to learn from connecting and networking with others people. Don’t try to go this alone. Join a community with other like minded individuals. It will make all of this so much easier.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

The shift from trying to do everything to focusing on doing a few things well. Social media is constantly telling you to do more. Add more services, build products, start an email list. It wasn’t until I turned down the noise that I was able to focus on the few things I was good at and stick to that.

It has made growing my business much easier.
