We were lucky to catch up with Luke Roberts recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Luke, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Purpose is a tricky thing. I think it’s embedded in the narratives we create about what our lives are, and specifically where the most pain is. When I think about the most meaningful moments in my life, they are the moments where I’ve been able to create partial or whole resolution in areas of my story that are the most difficult and involve the most pain. I believe purpose comes from seeking resolution of the deepest and longest present pain in our lives, which mostly come from wounds in early childhood. To find my purpose, I tend to look toward these types of unresolved narratives in my life from when I was younger, and see what next steps I can take. Usually I find fear to be a good compass, as it often points us toward what we want the most.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m currently building my music career promoting my original songs (my artist name is LJR) and funding everything through a video production company I created creating high quality affordable video for artists. Part of this includes running fundraiser concerts supporting local nonprofits and shooting video of these events. What I’m most excited about is having a novel way to create massive value for artists while having the time and resources I need to make my music work. We host Amplify events where we rent pro studios for the day and give 45 min slots to artists throughout the day where we shoot professional video at a fraction of the cost. Our next Amplify event is Dec 18th at Stages Music Arts, and our next Fundup Live fundraiser concert event is Jan 26th at the Pocket in DC.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Insane perseverance and faith in what is possible, the willingness to feel dumb working on something for a while until I figure it out, and a belief that if I can just find the right process I can figure anything out. I think the more you develop a sense of personal power and belief in yourself, the more you will be able to overcome challenges when you come up against them. The bigger the challenge, the more belief you need.
How would you describe your ideal client?
The best clients for me are artists that need ultra high quality video for their concerts and for getting booked for gigs and events but don’t necessarily have a huge budget.
