Meet Lulu

We recently connected with Lulu and have shared our conversation below.

Lulu , thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

I am going to share a little bit of my background first since it would she’d color on my personality! I was born into a family of both musical and intellectual backgrounds. My grandfather was a mayor, and my father was a lawyer and my mom, a musician, and creative. My brother went to a performing arts college in NY and is an amazing singer. My sister is now business owner and also a musician, sound healer. My niece, Heaven, is an influencer and law student. My children are athletes and love music and the arts. I think it has always been in our bloodline, the love for arts, politics, and music. Being surrounded by a family of creatives, I only get more inspired everyday. As my kids and family, get older, I watch who they listen to, their style of clothing, their passions, we are all very close and I would say that they are the reason we are very alive and creative! It stems from feeding each other inspirations, dreams and positivity. We support each other so much. My daughter, Teri, recently, wrote a self journal book and published it on Amazon! She is now an author. The love for creating new music is also something she is now working on. All of this, is how creativity stays alive! I also only surround myself with similar minded people. I am obsessed with creatives and how they produce, they not only make me want to do my best, they help me realize where I belong.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I am currently working on quite a few projects more focused on music. I am helping my daughter produce her first EP, and also helping her become into the Artist she has been destined to. I am also supporting local artists build their career and develop them into their capacity. I am also working on a children’s book at the moment. I have so many projects coming up and I’m only just getting started.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

My three most important qualities/skills that I believe are the most impactful is 1) how I treat people. Now, there will be some who don’t deserve to be treated right, and I’m not talking about those, in general, being respectful and humble in what you bring to the table is important! 2) the respect for people’s time is critical. It is important you value time – others and yours. By doing so, you set the standard for yourself! 3) the ability to say NO! I know that may not sound like a good thing at first, but valuing who valued you will set you leaps ahead of your goals, instead of chasing people or events, things that don’t bring you any value, reward or happiness.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

Getting more seasoned and spending time to develop myself , self care, and growing in experience has made me see the realness in people, events, and allowed me to control my own reactions, predict outcomes and avoid situations that may not be healthy. Having said that, there are times that I still find myself overwhelmed (lesser now) but it happens. When I face that, I try to think through it first versus allowing myself to feel it. I know how to self cure. I have to have time for myself, work out, sit in a sauna, and meditate. I would reflect on difficult situations and see how I can avoid that in the future. By changing your own self reaction and self talk, I find that situations aren’t as bad as they seem. It’s all about the reality you create for yourself. So, like my sister, MiaMahal, who is my confidant, always tells me, everyone is a star of their own movie. I choose to always have an amazing story and be star in it, and that’s how I want to live. When challenges come my way, I only look at it to help me even be greater. Life is too short to ponder and soak in those toxic issues. I stay away from people and situations that make me feel like I’m not myself, or bad about myself. So my key to this is really prevention. Surround yourself with the highest vibration and the challenges that come your way will only be short lived.
