Meet Lureena Thompson

We recently connected with Lureena Thompson and have shared our conversation below.

Lureena, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

My beautiful, stubborn, hard-working mother. She was a C.N.A. (Certified Nursing Assistant), and there was rarely a weekend when she wasn’t working a double or even a triple shift. It was tough work, and she did my sister and me the kindness of not pretending it was easy. She let us know—and more than anything, showed us—that you can make almost anything happen when you pair perseverance with a strong work ethic.

She sacrificed so much for us growing up, and it will always be my honor to shout her out every chance I get.

THANK YOU, MOM. LOVE YOU—AND YES, I’LL KISS THE CATS FOR YOU.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I run Cheerio Collective—a vibrant new destination for creativity, community, and conscious fashion in Highland Park, Los Angeles. It’s a multifaceted space: if you’re here for the store, we offer a curated selection of pieces on a choose-your-price sliding scale, making style and sustainability more accessible to all.

When we’re not slinging the goods, the space transforms into a live event venue, hosting monthly shows with live music, comedy, and workshops.

P.S. However you find your way here, be sure to ask us which stone is our favorite from the mosaic floor we installed in the space 😉

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Humor, resourcefulness, and kindness have taken pretty good care of me so far! My best advice is to keep showing up, exploring, and resetting whenever whatever you’re working on doesn’t feel right. Eat well and take it easy on yourself—you’re trying your best, okay!

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Yes, absolutely—we’re always looking to collaborate! Whether you’re a local artist, musician, vintage seller, fellow business owner, or just someone with a good idea and good energy, we’d love to hear from you. Cheerio Collective is all about creating space for creativity and connection, so if you’re reading this and thinking, “Hey, I could see myself in that space,” then get in here, honey!

We have a formal submission page on our website: CheerioCollective.com, and you can always reach us by email at hello@cheeriocollective.com.
