Meet Luther Allison

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Luther Allison a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Luther, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
I am optimistic because for most of my life I have been blessed to receive plenty of support and encouragement from my family. They have always invested in my interests from a young age and encouraged me to not only participate but excel at whatever I commit myself to. Their continual support encourages me and has always motivated me to believe in myself. My optimism also comes from my faith. To know that I am supported by an unfailing God gives me the strength to continue on in good spirits.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a full time musician and educator based in NY, NY. My job in and of itself is always exciting… it has been a passion of mine that I have dedicated much of my life to. I have the opportunity to connect with listeners through music in ways far beyond my understanding. I have recently recorded my debut album which will be released on Posi-Tone records, and I am looking forward to several tours and masterclasses that I will be leading over the next two years.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Shut up and listen. 2. Follow the leader.
3. Stay in my lane.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
They have always believed in me. From an early age I made it very clear what I wanted to pursue professionally and they never doubted me. They noticed my talent and put me in positions throughout my whole life to be challenged and learn. They have consistently made sacrifices in order for me to get the training that I needed, and I am forever grateful for that.
