Meet Luz Pennington

We were lucky to catch up with Luz Pennington recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Luz, so happy to have you on the platform with us today and excited to chat about your lessons and insights. Our ability to make good decisions can massively impact our lives, careers and relationships and so it would be very helpful to hear about how you built your decision-making skills.
I was taught by my parents to own my decisions and live with the consequences, now I always carefully review the pros and cons and make decisions accordingly. It is not hard for me to make decisions that affect my life only. it is harder to make decisions that can impact other peoples lives. In those situations I try to make my decisions that have the least negative impact on the majority of people that it will effect.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am a visual artist, I love creating ; it can be puzzles in fabric an art called quilting, I made a quilt for my dad when he was at the hospital, I put pictures of all my family, specially grand kids, the idea was he could get warm and be hug from all the family at the same time even when he was alone, I love to create art that makes people connected, when I face paint a child it transforms them into the character they want to be. I seen superheros, a tiger or a monkey living in the body of a 7 years old boy, and a lot of times they bring their favorite person to tag a long, and that joy fuels my creativity and makes me love my job more every day.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Consistency Dedication
Honesty
Some times we believe in projects but we abandon them if they don’t turn into a profit soon, great inventions come from people that believe in themselves and have the consistency and dedication to persist until they conquer the goal. you have to be honest with yourself to be able to detect when something is not the best fit or to turn and adjust if it goes in the wrong direction. a lot of times we want to stick to an idea that won’t take us anywhere just because we are afraid of starting over. A lot of frustration can be avoided if we are being honest with ourselves.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
For my dad it was very important to be reliable. He used to say, if you commit to a job, be on time, be prepared and do it the best that you can. when I work for my partners I try to deliver the same quality of work I do for my own business. I believe you grow even if you help your competitors, I was told to give my best no matter what appreciation comes from other people.
