Meet Lynette Hunter Halalay

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lynette Hunter Halalay. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lynette below.

Hi Lynette , so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?

Thank you so much for allowing me to be part of this interview.
Growing up, my mother and father always reminded me that I would often be the only one in the room who looked like me because there is only one Lynette. This shaped my understanding of uniqueness—from the way I dress, to the way I wear my hair, and how I carry myself. I learned that being distinct is not a barrier, but a strength. It’s allowed me to engage with anyone, seeing them as unique and beautiful individuals in their own right. The key to my success has been embracing my individuality and using it to connect with others on a human level. That is the beautiful gift my parents gave me.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

At Knit Sew Fabulous, I’m passionate about creating more than just fashion; I’m creating community and promoting sustainability. My work brings together unique designs, wearable art, and a conscious approach to materials. I’m particularly excited about Green Lenny, a line that emphasizes eco-friendly fashion, and Alter Couture, which offers custom, sustainable alterations. These efforts represent my belief that fashion can be both beautiful and responsible. Through Textiles, I explore the artistic side of fabric creation, merging craft with innovation.

My newest venture, Hunter My Closet, has been another exciting step for me. It’s a curated collection of unique, timeless pieces that help people express themselves confidently through fashion. It’s also a platform where I share tips, host live sales, and encourage people to embrace fashion with purpose.

I’m always looking forward to expanding and creating new experiences for my customers. For example, EcoFabulous Fair: Sustainable Textiles and Fashion Showcase, which I’ll be hosting in November, is an event I’m thrilled to launch. This fair will showcase sustainable fashion, feature workshops, and bring together amazing artisans who are passionate about eco-friendly designs.

I want my brand to be a place where art, fashion, and sustainability meet, and I’m proud to share that mission with others.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, the three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are resourcefulness , adaptability, and fearlessness.

Resourcefulness taught me to make the most of any situation. My advice: never let limited resources limit your creativity—find new ways to make things happen.
Adaptability has been essential for navigating change. Stay open to learning new skills and be willing to evolve.
Finally, fearlessness helped me take risks and embrace challenges. Don’t be afraid of failure—it often leads to the greatest successes.

Develop these traits, and you’ll navigate your journey with confidence and resilience.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Yes, I’m absolutely looking to collaborate, especially with artisans who share a focus on sustainability. I’d love to bring together creators for my EcoFabulous Fair, with the goal of showcasing sustainable fashion and textiles in Detroit. It’s a chance for us to create something innovative and impactful, putting our city on the map for sustainability. If you’re passionate about eco-friendly fashion, I’d love to connect.
