Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lyric Everly. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Lyric, thank you so much for joining us and opening up about the very personal topic of divorce. So many in the community are going through or have gone through divorce and we think hearing about how others dealt with the aftermath and managed to build a vibrant, successful life and career despite the trauma of divorce can be helpful to many who might be feeling a degree of hopelessness. So, maybe you can talk to us about how you overcame divorce?
Absolutely! Divorce ended up being a major catalyst on my journey. I got married super young (met at 15, married at 20) and we stayed together until we were 30. During that time, we started a branding agency and co-created so many things together. When we divorced, it was my first-ever breakup, so it was wildly overwhelming to understand the rollercoaster of emotions that washed over me. I spent the next year healing and felt myself bounce back. Then I met my second husband. We had a whirlwind romance and he mentioned marriage a couple months in. We said I do the next year, but the veil was quickly lifted. We divorced after 5 months and I subsequently learned I was naive to narcissism. That relationship really knocked me to my knees. I felt like damaged goods, wondering if anyone could love me and my past. But they say your greatest pain can fuel your greatest purpose. I channeled all of that energy into personal development, service, and wellness. In the years that followed, I kept my head down and built multiple companies, bought a home, achieved multi-year Airbnb Superhost status, won two Volunteer of the Year awards, trained as a Certified Sound Healer, and became a Playboy Creator. I found beauty from ashes. Most importantly, I’ve rediscovered hope.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I have several beautiful offerings! My creative team at Everly Agency (everlyagency.com) specializes in branding, design, strategy, and web. I have a wellness startup called Cloudspa (cloudspa.com) that will provide daily live-guided wellness experiences (we’re working towards funding to provide sessions to Veterans). I have a whimsical-pop album on Spotify, I’m a trending creator for Playboy (playboy.com/lyric), and we’re launching my podcast “Business in Bed” (@bizinbed) where I’ll be interviewing successful entrepreneurs about business, wellness, pleasure & play.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I’ve put my 10K hours into many many things, but I’d say the most important thing to develop is your mindset. Once you have a strong mindset, you’ll be able to excel at most anything you can imagine in life!
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
My dad was an entrepreneur and taught me the importance of discipline and creative thinking. My mom was a nurse and taught me how to take care of people and be of service. I become even more grateful for them as I get older. Now my brother, Matthew, works with me on various ventures and it feels like we’re carrying on their legacy.
