Meet Lyris Greene

We recently connected with Lyris Greene and have shared our conversation below.

Lyris, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I love this question, because it’s not a straightforward answer. Lol! I would say that growing up watching my parents and grandparents were my first examples of one perspective of resilience. However, as I grew up and began having my own experiences I’ve realized that sometimes we use resilience as a way of not resting and becoming aware of our experiences and how that shapes our perceptions on life; commonly resulting in burnout. Learning from my elders and my own experiences, I’ve come to understand that resilience comes from within like everything else and becoming more aware of, if I’m resisting or in alignment with source is the key. The feelings from aligning with source is a feeling of flow and no resistance, which may require a change in perspective. Therefore, resilience for me looks differently in my 40s than in my 30s; I rest more and know that what may appear as an obstacle or a setback is an opportunity to see a different view of the situation. Taking the perspective of this is happening for me and not to me, is how resilience shows up for me currently.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Lyris aka DJ Lyris The Hybrid Specialist, and I am a creative curator. I infuse music through multiple media and virtual outlets. As a professional dj, music director/producer, content creator, and an all around creative, I love to curate experiences that connects us vibrationally; in doing so, I launched an internet radio station, WLAG Timeless Radio in April 2020. WLAG Timeless Radio is a musical time capsule, intentionally curated, giving listeners a nostalgic journey through music spanning from the 60s to the early 2000s. You can listen my downloading the app or visit the website @ www.wlagtimelessradio.com and grab some merchandise.

Additionally, I’m an international multi-genre professional dj based out of Atlanta, GA. I specialize in creative mixing, fusing a variety of genres, remixes/edits with nostalgic classics. DJ’in is like putting a puzzle together, I love to hear music I haven’t heard before, because I can always find a familiar song from another genre to create a great blend; if the music feels good, I can mix it! Currently, you can catch me dj’in at several residences in the metro Atlanta area, such as Puttshack, STK, Monday Night Garage, and Bar Margot. Previous clients include Atlanta Botanical Garden, Georgia Aquarium, Ferrari, OrangeTheory Fitness, F45 Fitness, and Virgil’s Gullah Kitchen. I’m available for festivals, corporate, and private events.

This year also has marked my first endeavor in event curating; in which I’ve teamed up with three other black female creatives to throw a monthly party called The Sugar Honey Iced Tea (S.H.I.T) Party in Midtown Atlanta at Mrs. P’s in the Wylie Hotel. Also known as “The Party on Ponce”, it is a southern swanky restaurant patio, where RnB, House, Amapiano, Latin, Afrobeats, and HipHop is curated by myself, DJ Sed, Saundae Service, and host Mekkah.

Lastly, I still do a virtual livestream on Twitch once a week on Wednesdays at 7;30pm EST. I also offer virtual streaming services, as well dj lessons.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My journey continues to evolve giving perspective and opportunities for reflection, and spiritual growth is a huge contributor to my journey. Learning the art of allowing continues to reinforce my faith and beliefs. For me, this is releasing the details of how a goal or task I set for myself unfolds, and trusting that as long as I find joy in what I’m doing all things I desire will manifest. Discovering this flow continues to grow out of my spiritual practices, which includes meditating, grounding, reading, and journaling.

Consistency is a quality I know that has illuminated my journey. Believing in an idea that I can envision even though it hasn’t physically manifested drives my consistent nature in whatever I’m actively creating. The creating also contributes to my consistency, giving way to more momentum; once I lock into an idea and enjoy the process, consistency is a natural flow. I have found there needs to be a belief to drive the consistency.

Lastly, openness would be an area I’ve learned to be critical in expansion and evolution. Openness is how I stay learning and that attracts opportunities that I didn’t even know existed. I believe openness first starts with some deprogramming and reprogramming; discovering thoughts that shut you off from seeing different perspectives and replacing those beliefs with embracing change is key to being more open. No matter what avenue in your life that is unpleasant, discovering a new perspective, can be life changing. Openness will keep you evolving with less resistance in life.

My advice for anyone in their journey, no matter where you are in that journey, is to decide what it is that you really want. Seriously, think about the things that bring you the most joy, and allow that discovery of you to unfold. If you start there and decide I can have it because I can envision it, all you have to do is keep believing and going! All the aforementioned areas will attract and grow; it begins and ends with your thoughts and beliefs. No one can stop you but you!

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
A lot of people are familiar with “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne and her other works, which are derived from he teachings of Abraham. So for me the “Law of Attraction” Series by Esther and Jerry Hicks play an important role in my development. The “Vortex” which is book 1 of the series, which focuses on the understanding of The “Vortex”, where the Law of Attraction assembles all cooperative relationships. This book breaks down and understanding of every relationship we have every experienced and guide you to and understanding of the powerful creative Vortex that has already assembled the relationships you desire. This book in short, has helped me reprogram my beliefs and the nature of my relationships with others. Here is one of many nuggets in this book:

” Your true happiness happens when you discover that no one other than yourself is responsible for the way you feel. If you believe that others are responsible for the way you feel, you are in true bondage, because you cannot control how they behave or how they feel.”
