Meet Mackenzie Joyner

We were lucky to catch up with Mackenzie Joyner recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Mackenzie, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

My confidence developed when I stayed consistent and could see the difference in my work. I spent a lot of time practicing makeup looks just to give myself the confidence boost I needed. I feel like I was never terrible but I just wasn’t where I wanted to be skill wise. The time I spent perfecting my craft the more my work began to speak for me. I went from doubting myself to now getting noticed from people all over just off of my talent. I always like to try new things so I’m constantly repeating the process.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m a full time solo esthetician who specializes in makeup, facial treatments, waxing, and mannequin makeup. I also offer makeup classes and soon to be press on nails. I do believe the best part about my job is just getting to connect with amazing people and helping them find that confidence again. My brand means so much to me because it’s what pulled me out the darkness after losing my brother whom I loved deeply. I discovered my hidden talents when I picked up the brushes and that’s when I found my passion.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I think three most impactful things on my journey were customer service, creativity and consistency. I say customer service because that is the key to having a successful business you must be able to communicate and help resolve any issues clients may have. I believe that you need to be consistent to grow your following and get yourself out there. I always try to post my clients because have learned that showing your work or just posting daily on social media brings in more potential clients. I believe my creativity sets me apart from others which never limits me when it comes to clients. I feel like when you and twenty other people do the same thing you need to at least set yourself apart from others. I’m a firm believer in always thinking outside the box and make your own trends instead of following the rest. The best way to improve in anything you do is practice or just take it one step at a time through trial & error. In order to grow you have to fail sometimes so don’t be afraid if you do just remember it’s all apart of the process.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?

An ideal client for me is someone who trusts me the moment they walk through my door. I do feel when you trust your artist/service provider it definitely gives them the confidence boost they need. I don’t expect too much out of my clients so I would say as long as they value my policies and just trust me that’s all I truly care about.
