Meet Macy Hinds Teer

We recently connected with Macy Hinds Teer and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Macy , we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

Getting into the real estate industry at 19 years old was very challenging. I was a 19 year old competing with agents who are much older than me and much more seasoned than me. I had to find a way to get people to pick me and that took some time. I learned very quickly that knowledge is key. I had to really know what I was talking about when it came to the areas I was working, the inventory I was showing, and the listings I was getting.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I sell luxury real estate on Smith Lake! I am convinced I have the best job in the world, a work day on Smith Lake- showing properties by boat.. Tell me how that’s not the best work day ever? Im working on an exciting new development on Smith Lake, I can’t share too much yet but this will be a very unique and sought after place.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Communication, Eager to LEARN, and knowing the area already from growing up on the lake. The best advice I can offer to new agents in the real estate industry is be willing and eager to LEARN- you don’t have to reinvent the wheel you just have to learn the real estate world and what makes it turn. Knowledge is key in this industry as well so knowing your inventory knowing the market and trends will get you a lot further. Being willing to sit back and listen helps one learn a good bit also. I learned a lot early on by just sitting back and watching. Communication is a key factor in this business- answering your phone, following up with people, and easy to get in contact with makes for a successful agent in my eyes.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

I could really write a whole book on all the impactful things my parents have done for me over the years but this one that im about to share I think really played a big roll in molding me. When I was little my parents did several odd and end jobs on top of their regular jobs. One of those odd jobs was my dad having his car dealer license so they would buy used cars at auctions and then sell them from the house. As a 12-13yr old girl I really became intrigued with the sales thing and negotiating. As I got a little older dad would allow me to go into the sales with him to bid giving me the price of what not to go over. Then we would go home and start advertising the cars which then lead to me taking calls, lining people up to come check the cars out, and even selling the cars myself when I got to be 16-17. Little did I know that I was learning such crucial elements that I now today even use in my career. I watched my dad negotiate cars with honesty, accountability, and integrity. Dad and Mom both always have said “Macy, we like to be able to lay our heads down at night and sleep well knowing we do the right thing.” That goes a long way in life!
