We were lucky to catch up with Macy Jacob recently and have shared our conversation below.
Macy, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I find my purpose in telling complex, real stories about women. I love playing characters that are multi dimensional, and show that female characters should be more than just pretty. This is honest to me and reminds me why I love being a part of the film industry. I would love to fulfill my purpose one day by reaching a larger audience, and telling a story that inspires others too.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
So, I’m a professional actor from the Midwest, which means that right now, I’m actually more like a professional auditioner. But I work hard at it and occasionally I book a good role. Most recently I had my biggest role yet, playing the supporting lead in the Lifetime movie The Pregnancy Promise. I also started an indie production company with two amazing filmmakers called Frozen Beach Films. We’ve made 3 short films so far and I’m incredibly proud of them. Because of my past experience, I am now focused on finding roles that align with my passion and my purpose. That means I may not get booked as often, but I’m excited and passionate about the roles I am taking. I think it’s important to stay true to myself in this industry.
I’m planning a move to Los Angeles in 2025. There, I hope to get more auditions and have the opportunity to be a part of bigger and better projects. I am most eager to work with more female filmmakers, and tell stories that feature complex characters and themes.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back I definitely feel that trusting yourself and knowing what exactly you want is incredibly valuable. A lot of actors I know focus on taking any and every role, even if it doesn’t align with their personal interests, especially starting out. I did that too, and it was less than helpful to my growth as an actor. Learning from experience is another important aspect of growing in any career. You don’t know what you don’t know, and that can be frustrating when starting out. I have learned so much over the years, but I still have a whole lot more to learn.
The last and I think most important advice I learned is to not be afraid of failure. Failure leads to growth, even if it seems like going backwards. Acting is a skill that you can practice, just like anything else. It’s okay to be “bad” at times. But you will never know if you don’t try!
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I am always looking to collaborate with other artists. Filmmakers, actors, writers, etc. I feel the most passionate and invigorated when I work with someone who has similar interests.
Any artists interested in connecting can reach me through Instagram or email!
