We recently connected with Maddie Coolidge and have shared our conversation below.
Maddie, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
Coming from a unique but difficult and challenging upbringing as a child, my sense of self and worthiness were internally wounded, slashed with invisible scars. I had no idea (and am still learning) what it means to truly love and accept yourself. In my early 20s, I began a lifelong journey of deep inner work, tending to my broken heart. I started working with the right people to uncover and extract, bit by bit, the truth of who I am. In this extraordinary process, I found myself gravitating towards a deeper trust and surrender to a power far greater than I, while simultaneously developing a deep, meaningful, loving, and growing, relationship with myself. My heart began to open, my compassion grew wider, my love stretched deeper. In my experience, I found that true self confidence and fulfillment comes from within, from the beating heart that is our own. Not from not the accomplishments, success, or achievements through the outer world. Through continuing to return to a love and acceptance of myself and my life, I found a deeper sense self confidence.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am an artist with pottery as my main medium. Working with clay and becoming part of the alchemical process is so special and energizing to me. My work is mostly free form, organic, hand built pieces, but I also enjoy throwing on the wheel and then adding hand-built ornaments and designs to its body. Living on the Southern California coastline, I am constantly finding myself inspired by the ocean and all that inhabits in and around it.
Another passion of mine is working with my nightly dreams and the nightly dreams of others in a creative and intuitive way to get a glimpse into the psyche. Becoming aware of unconscious energies in myself (and others) is ultimately liberating and has allowed me to see how my current belief systems impact my waking life, as well as my dreaming. I feel most alive when I am immersed in this work. I am especially grateful for my mentors and teachers who continue to guide me in my personal inner work.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
My courage and strength, which are qualities I believe I came into this world with, have influenced my path the most. The ability to listen to the quiet, gentle pull of my Soul/heart has led me to a life that feels alive, passionate, and most aligned with who I am and the woman I am in the process of becoming.
If I had to give any advice, I would say to be gentle with yourself, being human is not easy.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My mentor, spiritual teacher, and soulmate, Gabi Purrer, who has taken me in and treated me as if I were her own daughter. She has held me with such deep compassion and unconditional love. She is the first person in my life who properly reflected me, and it is through her love and guidance that my horizons have broadened and my understanding of Self and the world at large continue to deepen. She has touched my heart and Soul profoundly.
