Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Madeline. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Madeline with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I spent over 10 years as a retail manager and I believe that played such a large role in how I work my business now. Things like working different parts of a successful business, hiring for different positions, prioritizing customer service and working towards goals all helped shape the quality of work I put in to my business now.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My photography business is family oriented and focuses on documenting the entire journey of growing a family from weddings to maternity, newborns to all of the milestones that follow. My greatest joy comes from being able to watch families grow and seeing the kids year after year. I owe this entire business to families that choose me year after year.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Relatability is so important in this business. When families decide to get in front of my family, they’re comfortable because they know that I am also a parent. They know that I have experienced these milestones and can relate. I think it is important to hire someone that feels like YOU.
Consistency is probably the biggest predictor in my opinion of success in this field. This type of work is very seasonal and it can feel so up and down. If you are consistent in your planning, in your growth plans and even in the style and quality of work you put out, potential clients know what they’re signing up for and trust you.
My best advice is to continue to learn. Always be open minded and always be a student. Always be willing to learn a new skill in your field or a new way to run your business.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
My parents really taught me resilience. My dad was in the Navy and my mom was a military spouse/mom who learned English while we were stationed around at different naval stations. My dad was deployed often and she showed so much resilience in tackling this alone with the challenge of language. My dad always pushed me to keep going. There wasn’t ever doubt about the things I could or would do. This was huge for me as a young woman with dreams.
